This just happened to me today. I was putting on my WSI hood mounts and one of the nuts on the underside fell off when I loosened the bolt. I guess I will take it to my dealer. Hey Jeffb1051 what ever happened with yours?

Just playin devils advocate.... for anyone who wants to do this do yourself a favor and put some penetrating oil on to help out with the getting these bolts out. No help for after the fact but a nice soaking and letting it set for a hr or so can't hurt and should only help to get things out in one piece. Worst case scenario it doesn't help and you wasted 10 seconds of your life.

You would think on a brand new truck you would not need penetrating spray. With mine it seems like the bolts were over torqued. But what do I know.

While im all for lubrication, in my case the penetrating oil did not make a difference. Because of the bolts used- with the bearing surface - or "washer" under the head of the bolt being so large, and the fact that you cant get to or even see the nuts, the penetrating oil never reached the threads.
IF the bolts were to break loose and come up even the slightest bit, yes lube the hell out of them!! I did, and out of the other three that came out, one bolt still pulled every thread of the nut out with it.
I can only speak of my experience, but in my opinion its was due to a combination of the thread locker used and being over torqued.

ok so I just got my Outlaw hood light brackets (very nice pieces) and HIDs, go to start the install, and the very first hood bolt I loosen breaks the nut loose (which I assume is tack-welded??) Obviously the bolts not coming out- just spins. I checked the other 3- all break free and thread out fine. Using a 3" handled 1/4" drive ratchet-WTF???? The truck is a '12 with 4,500 miles- has anybody heard of this happening?

Sorry man, same thing happend to me! Yep, it sucks.

No way to reach it, I had to take it back to Ford, and they had to weld a new one in....$250 bucks.

just went out and checked mine (2013 with 400 miles on it) in anticipation of some new brackets coming my way. the rearmost bolts were barely torqued, while the front ones were on tighter, but everything loosened freely. torqued them back down and will be waiting for the new brackets to show up.
