Well we all know what someone's talking about when they say "spindle," but technically our Raptors don't have spindles, they have steering knuckles.

Those are traditional "spindles" and the true spindle portion of the part is the section that's machined to a taper for a tapered wheel bearing. Our trucks are 4WD and have have CV shafts passing through the area of the knuckle where that tapered spindle is located. The reason that the Outlaw Raptor and other companies are calling their steering knuckle reinforcements a "spindle reinforcement" is because this is a very common mod for offroad/prerunner/baja style trucks and most of those trucks are 2WD and actually do use spindles.

Another nice thing about a 2WD truck is that you can locate the spindle anywhere on the knuckle that you want, even below the lower ball joint, because there's no CV shaft. This is a easy way to gain some major ground clearance with a 2WD truck.

The terminology is so washed that everyone calles spindles knuckles and knuckles spindles. Spindles - like mentioned above, are a shaft that is pressed into the knuckle that accepts the wheel bearings. The knuckle houses the spindle shaft. Raptors have knuckles and wheel bearing assemblies that bolt to them.

SDHQ Makes "spindle gussets" to prevent them from breaking, check it:

I'm curious if anyone has bent/broken a spindle while running the stock wheels. All of pictures I have seen that show damaged spindles are of Raptors with aftermarket wheels.
Given the extra leverage of 0 offset wheels, maybe this problem is related to that more than any aftermarket part attached to the spindle?

I'm sure with enough abuse, they will break, stock wheels or not.

My trucks a 2wd Ill have to see how easy it would be for me to lower the bearing to gain the 1.5'' back that FORD gave the 4x4's :Boo:

would have to machine at least a 1'' thick block at work. Have a Hole with the same o.d. as oem knuckle for bearing to fit in. Thanks for the idea BAJASVT!!!!!
