I've been to a few driving/racing schools and they are SOOOO much fun. Furthermore when you do things like Car Control classes where you're repeatedly practicing controlled skids, drifting, emergency braking drills, taking evasive action in pressure situations, etc etc... you leave there with serious improvement to your driving skills. Sometimes you don't realize it until the next time you have to make an emergency maneuver on-road, but it's amazing how instinctively you will revert to your training when milliseconds count. It becomes automatic and it feels absolutely awesome.
I am 100% positive that had I never had any of this training I would have had 2-3 wrecks in traffic that I was able to avoid. The main difference between the driver I was and the driver I am now has come from being trained how to properly use my vision, but there are so many other nuances these instructors can teach you.
We don't get a lot of snow here in the desert, but I drove in it a ton when I lived in CO, and I do drive on snowboarding trips still. I don't have any snow/ice-specific training yet and I'd like to. Depending on cost, I might be willing to get in on this.
