Blue smoke driver side exhaust

Started my truck after it had been sitting for about 9 hours. Had driven about 400 miles on a trip two days earlier. Started it and got hammered with blue smoke billowing out of the driver’s side exhaust. Shut it down, checked for oil leaks, no signs of a drip. Started it up again and had blue smoke again, smells like shit. Let it idle for a few minutes, check the oil and I’m full. Pulled out and smoked for about a mile, then the smoke stopped and all was normal. Drove fine, no CEL, no codes, no nothing. Dealers service was closed, and I waited an hour for Ford roadside or AAA with no one coming before I took off. Any ideas? 2018. Headed to the dealer probably Friday.

Did you let it idle for a long time before shutting it off last time? Like 30 minutes or more?

That's the only time I get the smoke.

Yep, it idled for about an hour in the parking lot before I shut it down.

Mine has done it a few times. Notably when I haven't driven it to warm it up and just let it idle for a long time.

I have read of it happening to others. I don't worry about it.

I’m gonna hold off for now, drove it another 400 miles home, and around 50 today. No sign of smoke, burning oil smell, or any codes. Truck ran great. I’m going to change the oil next week. Hoping @FordTechOne has an opinion on it.

I figure some oil is getting past a seal somewhere while the seal is cold, maybe it seals up when it heats up and expands. Maybe the oil is sitting in the exhaust somewhere and it's not hot enough to burn it off until you start putting a load on the engine.

Maybe a seal is always leaking but is such a small amount that there is usually no noticeable smoke. I don't use much oil between changes, so I am not worried about it. Surely not worried enough to insist some knuckle dragger get his paws on my truck then have them tell me they could find anything. I think you're doing the right thing holding off.

This is just a raptor thing. I have had 3 Gen 2s. They all do it after 25/30 min idle or longer. It burns off in about 2 miles down the road. Yes it makes you look like your driving a 70k beater for a minute which sucks.
