I have a 2019 Ford Raptor, purchased new. Had it in the shop for oil consumption, blue smoke and burning rich. They replaced valve covers with no visible oil leak and problem continued, now with 37,000 and 2 years old I was told the engine locked. How? I don't drive it rough, I change the oil every 3,500 miles. Was this a problem from the beginning?

So, this is still covered under warranty, I hope! Question: if it was blowing blue smoke for 2 years why did you not make them fix that? How was it burning rich? Hope they are fixing this for free for you.

According to the records for blowing blue smoke every time I took it in the dealership said they fixed it by adjusting the ECM. It would be good for a few thousand miles and then back again.

On burning rich, the gas mileage was averaging 14.5 and the dropped to 12. I noticed the exhaust pipe had a lot of black soot, nothing like any other vehicle.

It should be covered under the 5 year 50,000 mile power train.

Yeah, no shit, it should be covered. Is the dealer still waiting for confirmation from Ford for the new motor? Hopefully they give you a long block.

IMG_2589.jpg According to the dealer they need to pull the engine now and then get with Ford on what they want to do to remedy it, they said rebuild or replace.

You cant make this up, but this was the story told........my truck died and I had it towed home, thought it was a battery although AAA could not start. Took the battery into an auto store, they said its a good battery just need to charge it. I did, no go....had it towed to Ford. They call me on Monday to tell me the truck started, they drove it into the shop, it was a dead battery $269. 3 hours later same day I was told it wasn't running. Tuesday morning I went to the dealer, remember the truck was in the shop but it has 3 inches of snow on it from the night before and sitting outside. Later on Tuesday I received a call that the PCM was not communicating with the truck they have a call into Ford. I showed the service person a picture of my crank which I said I noticed before it was dropped it off, he said that's an oil leak they will fix it. Thursday I get a call that the engine is locked. So in 4 days I had a dead truck that came alive and died again with a $269 battery that was not needed.

I don't even know where to start (no pun intended), talk about total incompetence. Get your money back for that Battery, that's bs. Keep us posted, I'm speechless at the moment, don't want to say too much, when I'm pissed off, lol, I hate hearing these stories!

So... generally, blue smoke is oil being burned in combustion, probably fouling the cats along the way and running rich is a separate condition. I could see how a rich condition might result from the ECU desperately trying to correct a mixture that was hopelessly screwed up by the burning oil but rich running is generally dark smoke, not blue.

Any smoke should get you flunking an emissions test if you’re in one of “those” places. I was given to understand, and I may be misremembering, but I though the ubiquitous 2018+ valve cover issue was oil loss, was that also oil consumption?

If the problem continued, you had/have another, rather serious defect going on. Valves? seats? piston rings? phase of the moon? Either way, if the problem exist after the valve cover replacement, that needed pursuit.

Yeah, it will be interesting to hear the story on this.

Based on what I've read about the dealer trip, it tells me that the goon(s) were playing with your truck in the snow and popped the engine, which locked up. It definitely had some problem before, but the goon(s) finished it off for you.
