If you are paying for a professional custom paint job, they would scob each layer of color smooth. Then repeat with layers of clear coat. Basically gently removing any imperfections before adding another layer. The better the painter, the less orange peel etc to remove. All bets are off with production paint assembly lines. Updated equipment likely explains the better finish on these other Ford cars.

The orange peel does not bother me that much its all the other things that are wrong with this paint job that are an issue, especially the paint misses along the edge of the hood and in the corners of the box. Hell I even have areas with no primer!

What's the picture of?

Orange peel bothers the hell out of me. The op on the Vette is friggin ridiculous. You'd think that that high end of a car would at least get a decent paint job. Basically completely removing it requires the painter to wet sand the paint to were it is completely smooth.

The Edge, MKX, Escape are all newer vehicles meaning their assembly lines have also seen more updates than the current F 150 which has really only seen cosmetic updates since the earlier part of the last decade. I'm going to ASSume that newer techniques/ processes will be used on the next generation of F 150.

Has anyone checked a King Ranch or HD F-150 to see if it has the same issues?

Yep has the exact same issues, a good friend just purchased a new 2012 F-250 Super duty, orange peel and fish eyes all over the damn place! Now I used to inspect brand new fords,gm,dodge vehicles after being received off the railhead, they all had paint defects on the trucks! Even the new at the time(2009) kodiaks, all 1 ton dodge dually 1 tons had issues with thin paint. Don't get me started on GM trucks - not sure how they are now but 3 yrs ago the sierra had some of the worst stock paint ever - more orange peel (especially on the bed and tailgate) than any ford or dodge truck. I'm guessing here but I believe the paint on most trucks is not as high of a priority as a car. They probably don't have a wet sanding dept (or if they do they suck !! lol) in most truck assembly plants? Meh nothing beats buying a brand new prevost million dollar motorhome and having paint drips 3 feet long and actual paint peeling on the ft cab.

There's an old wives tale that says vehicles painted on Monday Weds and Fri look better than ones on Tues Thurs because on Monday you're still happy from the weekend, Tues sucks, Weds you're happy because you're half done, Thurs sucks and Fri happy again because you're almost done.

I know it's ridiculous, just thought I'd share a crazy explanation I heard once.

Has anyone tried to get this looked after under Ford Warranty?
I checked my Flame Blue paint and it is perfect, no orange peel, runs, fish eye nothing!

No...It has been brought up but as far as I know no one has tried it...worried but screw the paint up even more, or a Carfax report, etc... I for one would only do it if they reappointed the entire truck...

Glad yours is good I the paint...jerk face

I see it on mine, but like Fred worried about who does the work. Do we have a craftsman or do we have the apprentice?

I've had three black F-150's (Though my '13 Raptor is the first Tux Metallic). My Raptor has the best (almost flawless) paint job of them all. no O.P., or runs. Of course, the metallic does tend to hide flaws better.
