Can anyone comment on the shutters purpose in front of the stock intercooler location, are they just for mpg, or for condensate build up too? Just trying to plan out my install I would rather have more flow to the intercooler and remove it or just the shutters themselves if they are just for mpg

Those are what ford introduced back in 2015 to help stop the condensate problem you are talking about.

I have the Whipple IC and it retains all the OEM components and functionality (shroud, shutters, fans). Some other stock location ICs don’t leave room for one or more of these components, but you get a bigger IC in trade.

ok so then for you guys that are doing a stock location ic upgrade are you leaving the shutters in? And for the ic that relocate or require removal of shutters what are they doing about the condensate issue
custom intercooler shroud for my CVF unit, i removed the shutters entirely and have had zero issues

Seems like it’s one of those things that half are going to say it’s not needed cause it’s only for better mpg, and the other half are going to say it’s for that condensate issue the older ecoboost were having, kinda leaves you guessing and rolling the dice

videos online showing those shutters in action from a go-pro camera or whatever left me feeling that they are hindering performance, in some instances almost half the frontal area or more of the intercooler was blocked. maybe not a noticeable amount and how this translates to the real world, idk but no way can it be beneficial to have half or more of your intercooler blocked at any time. this is just my opinion

exactly, that’s why I asked in the first place hopefully someone will be able to help out with an answer I would love to remove them for the above reasons but not without first making sure it won’t cause issues down the line
