Bedliner Question

I prefer Rhino. This is my third one and never an issue. I think the install can make a difference too. Friend of mine had a Line-x and we noticed two things: line-x was harder and not as grippier and his faded and mine didn't (they were done a month apart). Line-x is supposed to be more chemical resistant also. Good luck.

I had my wheel wells line-x'ed to protect them from all the mud, road salt, etc. It makes cleanup a lot easier after 4-wheeling, and protects well from rust and corrosion. I've seen trucks (not a Raptor) that were pretty badly rusted there, and several that the bed support rods would be rusted through and broken. Since it's so hard to get all the mud and salt out of there, I wanted the area protected. And it looks a lot better than stock.

I went with bedtred for a bedliner, as it wouldn't scratch up furniture, etc, and wasn't a permanent solution. If I didn't like it later and wanted to get a spray-in, I could. Vice versa is not true.

Doing the wheel wells with lineX was one of the best mods I did! Looks great compared to the poorly painted wheel wells. Mine have been done for 2 years and no issues. I also went with the bedtred and love it!

Here is sort of a review of the main bedliner products.

LINE-X
Standard - Will fade, black only.
Premium - Fade resistant, black only (colors are coming though and will eventually replace Xtra).
Xtra - Fade resistant, used mostly for colors other than black.
Platinum - Fade resistant, any color, 300% tougher than Premium, available July 2013.

Rhino
Tuff Stuff - Will fade, older low pressure product, weakest Rhino product.
Tuff Grip - Will fade, high pressure, stronger than Tuff Stuff.
Hardline - Will fade, typically applied thinner, slightly stronger than Tuff Grip, slightly harder than Tuff Grip.
Solarmax - Fade resistant, not really a Rhino product (it's from Bayer).
Note: Some Rhino dealers will spray an automotive paint on top of the first three products for colors, but you can wear through that topcoat pretty fast.

According to the products' technical data sheets, all of the LINE-X products are stronger than the Rhino products. I can give you specific numbers if you ask me what you want to compare. LINE-X Platinum blows them all away...by a long shot.

Regarding the wheel wells: The LINE-X nationwide warranty does not cover wheel wells, only the truck bed. The individual dealer can warranty the wheel wells for any period he sees appropriate.

The answer to your question is Ultimate Linings. The company that applies the bedliner for Ford (and Dodge, some Toyota, and upcoming GM) is Ground Effects, Ltd. (GFX). Last summer, LINE-X bought a controlling interest in GFX. At some point, the contract with Ultimate will expire, then.....?

The Ultimate product is an aromatic (not UV stable) polyurethane/polyurea hybrid similar to standard black LINE-X. GFX is a tier one upfitter for Ford, GM, Chrysler Group. You will find them if you Google search.

I just saw Big Brother's build, very nice, and noticed he sprayed the front Ford bumper, the vents and the other black trim. I didn't even think of that. Would you gentlemen recommend doing those as well?

YES! IMHO it looks great and on every truck I have owned, over time, the plastic has faded due to UV rays. The Line X premium is supposed to combat that.

FYI: If you decide to Line X your fenders, grill, etc, my installer used a finer tip to spray them. He used a less fine/standard tip to spray the bed liner.

I have an 08 Silverado with Rhino and it is so faded it's almost grey now.

My Rhino in my raptor just passed a year of Texas sun and looks like it was put on yesterday.

Probably not the best option, here's why:

Factory Bedliner:
Thickness is about 65 mils on the floor, aromatic (will fade), 3 year/36K warranty, dealer can't fix it.

Aftermarket (I'll use LINE-X as an example): Thickness is at least 125 mils on the floor, aromatic or aliphatic (won't fade) is available, lifetime warranty, any LINE-X dealer can fix it.
