I know this has been discussed before, but I just installed these today and snapped a few photos to share. I've had these in the last few trucks I've owned and found them to come in handy pretty often. They're rated at 1000 pounds and I'm not really sure I agree with that, but I've put a pretty good cinch on them with a ratchet strap many times and haven't had any issues. I've heard claims of them pulling out, but it's my guess that under a reasonable load they won't pull out if installed correctly. The metal brackets on the bottom of the Bull Rings bend up 90º on both sides and the left and right side of the bed stake pockets bend down 90º on both sides; you need to be 100% sure that both sides of the Bull Ring bracket extend beyond the 90º bends in the bed before tightening them up. If only one side is locked under the bed stake pockets, they will feel secure by hand, but I could easily see them pulling out under a lateral load.
I can't take credit for the layout template because I found it online, but it's dead nuts accurate to install these if you measure correctly. I scribed the outline of what I was going to cut out with a small pick and cut it out with a utility knife... it cut surprisingly easy. Once you cut out the rectangle, you'll notice that the plastic bed cap sits about 1/4" above the top of the steel bed rail with the exception of a few little ribs here and there that sit right down on the top surface. You will need to make some shims/spacers for between the top of the steel bed rail and bed rail cap or the Bull Ring will suck down the bed rail cap and it will look like . The plastic bed rail cap is only ~1/8" thick, so the pieces you cut out won't be thick enough to use as shims. I didn't post and photos, but I used 1/4" thick plexiglass.
I purchased these at AutoZone for $30 per pair because I had some gift cards, but I've seen them cheaper online and even Home Depot has them for $25 a pair. They're sold under many different brand names, but make sure they have the Bull Ring logo somewhere on the package. I bought a cheap pair once that looked identical, but didn't have the Bull Ring logo and lets just say I got what I paid for.
