I definitely never want to have someone come up to me asking my what my license plate means. When I see a personalized plate with random characters or obvious acronyms I just think in my head that they must love their inside joke to themselves every day of their life.

If a license plate is an inside joke, it's a good sign that they aren't trying to impress you, just give themselves a little extra something to smile about. I can respect that. Close second, or maybe a little ahead is something clever that will put a smile on someone else's face without looking like the owner is bragging. Just putting something other to draw attention to yourself, or show that you have the extra cash to go get yourself a personalized plate...not that impressed.

Worth noting that all of this can be accomplished with a vinyl decal almost as well as a custom license plate for a lot cheaper.

I won't forget my plate #. I've been rocking the same plate since 1997. (Several F150's between the 1997 and the 2017 not pictured.)
A couple benefits of swapping my old plates over to my new vehicles: Saves me $35 for new plates and I can register my new ride right at the town office without having to go to the DMV. If I get new plates that would require a trip to the DMV and waiting in line forever.

That's lucky. I've had 3. They make you change them here every every—I think—7 years to get money and because the sun destroys the "reflective coating" or whatever. I remember them all though. Technically I forgot one, but it's sitting in a pile nearby and I can see the last 3 characters so I remember it. Maybe the limit is 10 years. I've had plates for almost 22 years now. It's a waste of money to get specialized plates here. We don't pay a ton in taxes otherwise, so they have to make it up on licensing BS. I've been considering getting a Lightning plate, because I hate myFlorida.com on the plate. I spray paint mine so it just says Florida, like it used to. I had a State Trooper complain about it, but there's a SCOTUS case that a dude won on a DUI because the only reason they pulled him over was because he modified his plate.

Not sure how it works in your state, but in TX currently, it $150 a year, or $450 for 5 years. If that's spare change to you, then great. But $90 a year is a lot to rent a piece of metal, when you don't have anything that interesting to say.

You're spending $90k to drive a truck that gets 12mpg. I've spent $1000 in gas the last month of ownership and got pulled over for no front plate. Straight up told the cop to bill me for the $132 ticket cuz he could pull me over 10 times over and it doesn't affect my life 1 iota. Every one has a different life, a different take on finances. If you cared about stupid expenses like gas, you could have spent way less money on an EV and saved a crap ton of money.

It is chump change, and frankly it should be chump change for anyone buying this truck. But this is a good reminder that we got the every day guy in the forums trying to keep up with the Jonses. Nice.
