You'll want to reapply it after a few rains / washes but it really does help.

I don't think moving the camera up any higher will make much difference. The problem is the low-pressure area immediately behind the tailgate caused by the vehicle's aerodynamic characteristics. It creates a vacuum that sucks water right back up against the tailgate.

Ok got some rainx today and applied it, supposed to get some snow again on Tuesday and will report how it works, maybe take some pics if it's noticeably better. I threw it on the front too for good measures.

You could go check out a non-raptor, pre-2013 F150 to see how it was done. I had a 2011 Harley F150 that had the sensors in the bumper. These worked great with backup camera. Problem I had was that after a wash in the winter, sensors would give a false reading of being close to something. This would go away and the normal road debris in the winter didn't affect them - strange.

Check out Echomaster back up sensors. They supply OEM to Ford but you can buy their kits on eBay.

Really neat install, looks stock. Comes with drill bit as well. Only mod I did was to put some foam in the speaker to stop it being so loud.

Agree about the low pressure area, but the higher you get the smaller the droplets will be, carrying less road debris to dirty up the camera.
Also either Ford realized it was a poor location, else they saw a labor/engineering savings because they moved up up to the tailgate handles on the 2015 models.

here, on frf
i dont think it makes a diffference where the camera goes. the back of my truck looks uniformly dirty. and the ford engineers only relocated the camera because it gave them something to do.....
