When I backed up early this morning my camera came on but a message saying my camera was not registering came up and I hit the X and message went away and camera did come on. Anyone know what’s up?

I think the wiring may be coming loose. I camera has been kind of spotty lately. Not working at all or colors bleeding. The wire is at the bottom of the tailgate and I've jiggled the wire a couple of times with the camera then working as it should.

Looks like I'm going to have to remove the stripper pole and back plastic and take a closer look :(

Soooo, let me save you some time. You will get nowhere. I pulled my stripper pole and what not - you can't access it that way. I had the same kind of problems described above and I too suspected the wiring into the tailgate since it bends and flexes when the tailgate opens. Upon inspection it was all perfectly fine - made to accommodate that. I'd still check yours right where it exits the bed and enters the tailgate, but don't pull the pole and crap, you'll just meet inaccessible metal.

I had to replace my camera. It solved my problem.

Couple things to note, if you have a 2012 or earlier, your Ford emblem WILL BREAK when you remove it. And you have to remove it to remove the camera. It doesn't matter how careful you are. They changed the design in 2013 - it looks exactly the same, but is superior. So, you have two choices - buy a new emblem that will break again should you ever remove it again, or buy the 2013+ housing + emblem, which is what I did and what I recommend.

I just wanted to throw in here that we had intermittent issues after a tailgate replacement with it going offline and such. We removed the back panel (plastic) only while leaving the stripper pole.

I was able to reach to the connector, apply connector grease and then reconnect. No issues ever since. Just in case you had not tried the connection first.

Thanks @Dane for the info! I have a 2013 so I will check out the camera first!
If memory serves, I believe that means you already have the newer version and you can gently pry the emblem off without it breaking. Then there are two bolts which are easy to remove and the whole housing comes off. Then there's a plastic camera retainer held in by a screw. I didn't see any visible issues with my camera, and it was connected tight. Sure enough though, new one worked and continues to do so. Unfortunately that stupid little camera is one expensive SOB.

Well, my 2011 SCREW backup camera (display in rearview mirror) is now displaying the 'blue screen of death'. I checked the fuse in location 34 and it was good. There is mention of checking the connector between the tailgate and truck, but when I looked I just see the cable disappearing into the tailgate (no connector). Additionally, the relationship between my SYNC and SIRI appears to have changed....could that imply a software issue with the camera?

Side note: I now need to buy a replacement fuse since I dropped the initial good fuse into the void below the fusebox....not the first time either.

A couple of years old, but did you figure this out? In the last 6 months mine has started doing the same thing. Some days nothing, then some days it's reversed. I am trying to figure out the best less expensive way to repair.

Mine is reversed image and its seems zoomed in with no lines. I assume its the standard "just replace the camera scenario"? Any updates on yours?
