Based on my experience as a Tech for Porsche when they introduced this feature I can tell you that most manufacturers will engineer these systems very similarly, That being said, Porsche's system had multiple parameters that had to be met before it would even allow this feature to work, it analyzed hvac usage, stereo energy consumption, ambient temp in and out of the vehicle, battery voltage and energy, if any one of these or other parameters were not met then the car stayed running. They over engineered many of the components that would see high duty cycles such as the starter for this function, and they had increased capacity batteries to handle the extra load cycles.Newbie question. I figure the start/stop was to be "eco friendly" or save gas, but really i don't it will matter much. I recall concerns like a decade or more ago when this feature started appearing in cars, about mechanical stress on the engine and drain on battery. I see pretty much everybody in forum here does not want it. Can someone give me more technical reasons as to con's of of this feature ? thx RW
