I have been to the North side and looked down that "trail". It is amazing that anything survived lowering down that "canyon". The pioneers were amazing.

Well not really. It saved you a lot of time back then. As I understand it, at the time, it was one of the only ways to cross the Colorado River between UT/AZ? It was also the shortest and cheapest. Gas back then was almost what it is today!!
