Anyone install Aftermarket Intercooler on their 2017 Raptor?

It equalizes back pressure so why would it not be needed or wanted?

Because it's a turbo application. You don't want to equalize like in an NA motor... you want the most direct way out, the less backpressure the better.

Not on a turbo car. NA, yes, turbo it will actually cause unwanted restriction.

I researched your claim and you are correct! I took my Raptor to my buddies shop and remove the Stock exhaust pipe and X-pipe. I found that the Muffler was 2 1/2'' in and 2 1/2'' out. Also, the pipe from the Cross sprt is 2 3/4'' and the pipe from behind the Muffler was 3'' to the Tip. Don't know why Ford did it this way? Anyway, I put just over 73'' of 3'' pipe to the stock rear 3'' pipe. There is no Muffler. I wanted to hear what it sounded like and if I liked it! It is way to loud for me! I have ordered 2- 14419 Magnaflow Round exhaust 3'' in and 3'' out mufflers. They are 14''. This will be about as good of a free-flowing system as you can get with a Muffler and keeping a full-length Exhaust system.
I also removed the Factory Tornado adaptors from the Intake system. The Power was changed! before the power band was over after 5,000 rpms. With the straight pipe, it pulled hard up 6,000 rpms.
Just wanted to Test it and I have the shop and resources to do it for the cost of Material!

That sounds awful. I hope the mufflers can take some of the “Honda Civic with fart can” sound characteristics away.

Wow sounds like a turboprop airplane! You can really "see" the airflow in the exhaust - thx for recording!!

Mfgrs are always having to compromise... I have not seen the Raptor's exhaust in person myself yet so I can't really give commentary on why they did what they did but you can be sure it was a compromise of cost, sound and performance. Those intake baffles are surely to perform some function, it looks like they would create some sort of swirling venturi. Usually 'turbo mufflers' are after the turbo and generally cause no measurable performance hit - their intent is to quiet the turbo noises and a lot of guys to remove them and replace them with larger piping.

It is actually quite surprising that your Raptor is so loud without mufflers - cats are the best mufflers usually, this gives me hope that Ford actually used a quality cat. I would love a shot of the downpipes if anyones got any...

My assumption is the "tornado" in the intake is to reduce intake noise... it's crazy how much NVH is attributed to intake sound... they're definitely restrictive just due to surface area reduction it does force the air like a fluid to move differently... I think anyone kidding the intake wants more sound and airflow...

Many cars get good power gains just removing restrictions and optimizing airflow using the stock parts - and keep hot air out which is really important.
