I'd paint it. Scuff, color, 2K clear, done. Maybe $75 in paint total. Hardest part is taping off the tires from the overspray and scuffing the wheels. If you want it to look good and do it on the cheap, this is the way to go.

If you prep right and put 5-6 coats on Plasti Dip has been known to last years.
What prep work is needed? I do not want to scuff up the stock wheels.
Wouldn't call it painting. Just dipped these to see how I would like it and because I didn't like the stock look. In my opinion it looks better than stock, but I am researching wheel/tire options.

It was the Plasti Dip Anthracite spray with glossifier. I did NOT take the wheels off. I just wrapped the brake calipers etc in plastic bags.this is the exact look I am going for. Did you use a grey spray and glossifier? Also did you take the wheels off to paint them?
