Well, I got my SDHQ winch plate in on Friday. It showed up in a bomb proof box filled with styro peanuts.
Attn SDHQ shipping dept: Filling a box with styro peanuts and throwing two huge plates of steel in there will not protect them from one another. lol. Mine were pretty banged up. Nothing a coupel minutes witha rattlecan can't fix, but something that should be addressed for your future orders. (read this as a suggestion/ not bitch'n).
Instructions: While the descriptions in the instrustions are "OK" at best, I think the average installer can get it figured out. A couple more added pics and in color would be preffered. Since I have seen a couple of these installed at a local shop, I new most of what had to be done.
Quality/ Fitment: These plates are strong for sure! each plate was close to 20 pounds each. So not overly heavy, but built well. They fit snug on the frame horns and will add more strength to the front of the truck. They went together easy enough and the supplied hardware is of good quality as well.
The hard part of the install (for me) was getting the bumper back on and even on both sides. This part is what took me the most time. I had two extra bolts that I have no idea what they were for. The instructions did not show them in the pics nor say where to use them. I did not see a place needed for them though.
I added a set of D2 Dually wides on either side of the winch fairlead as well. I mad emy own brackets and bolted to the factory support bar. I may end up changing to a heavier duty bumper.
I mounted a WARN VR10S with WARN Wluminum fairlead and Daystar Isolator. I modified the mount to the relay box to be on the pssd and sit as low as possible. Routing the wires was very easy! There is pleanty of room up the pssd to the battery.
...pics to follow. I need to go through and sort them since I finished when it was dark tonight.
Woudl I buy this mount if I were to do it again? In a word, YES! I plan to put an aftermarket bumper on towards Springm however, I wanted the winch on here for hunting season, winter.
All in all, SDHQ did some nice design work on this setup.
..pics coming on Monday.
