Android auto will not reconnect after leaving car

Everytime I leave my truck running and leave with my phone, android auto will not automatically reconnect unless I press the android auto button in phone settings. Anyone know how to automatically reconnect?

I'm not poor so I don't have this issue. I have an adult phone.

but...have you tried turning it off and back on again?
