Tried to search for this, but only found 1 thread that was a couple years old.

Is there any way to get the outside temperature on the dash or in the center console while carplay is enabled? They only was I can get this is if I'm in the Sync screen, which I hardly ever use.

That thread was probably mine... Still wish there was a way

That’s bad news. My Sync v3.4 on my ‘19 works real well with carplay. If I had to replug my phone in a 2-4 times since I had the truck that would be the extent of my problems. I wonder if some iPhones just don’t play nice with carplay. I’m using a X.

I don’t think the air intake charge temp would be as accurate as just the outside ambient air temp reading. If I remember I will try and check tomorrow some. I’m sure that temp reading will fluctuate and climb as the motor heats up. So a one time first thing in the morning reading isn’t of much use. Not to mention it’s not a static function on the dash.

My CarPlay has been flawless too. Try resetting your phone so it updates to the latest network settings.

Great issue to bring up and very annoying!

Apple CarPlay is enjoyable in some ways and absolutely frustrating in many other ways (!). How come you can't use the combined view and see satellite radio information? I have a map route going and want to change/see satellite radio info, but the combined view shows music on my phone that is not even playing. I have to click on the Apps View, click on the "Ford App" which exits CarPlay, and then click on Audio. Just doesn't make any sense.

Keep in mind guys, Apple CarPlay lives on the phone not in your vehicle. That's why you need your phone to use it! The vehicle only allows its use by being compatible. Vehicles need to have the phone plugged in and (fortunately) more are allowing it wirelessly (if only they would also have wireless charging option at the same time!). See for more info: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205634

I highly recommend you politely annoy Apple with feedback everytime it bothers you. If enough people give feedback -- their AI computers will tell them this is now a feature that needs their attention. https://www.apple.com/feedback/

However, Apple does not have a feedback option specifically for CarPlay! So you need to give it under the latest [edit] iPhone iOS (currently 13 at the time of this writing).

CarPlay is very finicky. Why? Because it takes A LOT of (personal) information and sends it back to the mothership while you are using it (read the annoying small print user agreements to see what info it "needs"). If you change settings on your *phone* - CarPlay will not like it. Take a read over this on all the things to make Apple CarPlay happy: https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/intro-to-carplay-iphf33a514c9/ios

I too wish I could use Apple CarPlay and see the ambient outside temp! Good luck to the guy having problems connecting.

I would argue that it isn't JUST the phone.....it also depends on the vehicle.

For example, up until recently when Android auto updated to include ambient temp, it did not display in the Raptor. However, the Jeep Grand Cherokee system did(I rented one on a business trip). The Jeep kept a status bar at the top of the screen that showed ambient and driver/pass climate settings while Android was running. So it is a case of automakers making provisions to allow it to be displayed.

That said as I mentioned, Android recently updated for the user to select ambient display using the phones location and data....so the temp displayed is not coming from the raptors sensor, bit rather the phone.

I would agree with this. But Apple for one could allow easier and better automaker integration or better yet allow the end user to be able to select more functions.

I would rather be able to pull ambient temp data from a vehicle sensor and so would most. Still app data displayed on a carplay or Android auto home screen isn’t bad either.

Ford can do whatever they want I am sure. My wife just got a new Aviator and Sync is further enhanced. Nextgen F-150’s May see this. But Lincoln decided to just display the ambient temp on the digital dash and bypass sync altogether. I’d have no problem seeing it in the center stack in my truck as well.

1st world problem? You betcha! Pay a lot for a vehicle, why not get more options that make sense!

Yea, I have to agree and something I left out of my post above...auto manufactures are allowed to tweak the user interface in a limited fashion.

Not by much though (Apple is very restrictive....not sure if this is good or bad). As you can see, every car you get into that has Apple CarPlay compatibility, the CarPlay screens looks largely the same. Then there is the backend...what are you allowed access to via CarPlay.

For example, you will see a slightly different screen in wider all-glass dash systems such as Mercedes or even Lincoln. As manufactures start to go to fully electronic dashes in lower-end vehicles (as opposed to a separate analog speedometer area and electronic head-unit/AC controls area), perhaps Apple will allow more customization.

There is significant "behind the scenes negotiations" between these vehicle manufactures and Apple/Android (Google) to implement these interfaces in their vehicles.

Do you think Apple pays to get CarPlay into vehicles or do manufacturers pay Apple for the honor? Who gets and benefits from all the data generated from these systems? Do you think Tesla will ever allow Apple CarPlay??? LOL

Ford simply needs to have the ambient temp reading in more than one place. Somewhere in the instrument cluster for example. My escape has this with far less real estate than the F150 has.
