Just got my new Raptor. This truck is bad @#$!. Definetly all the power I will ever need. But, can anyone tell me if a K and N intake system will help me with hp and gas milage.

From another Raptor owner, the K&N drop in filter is not a mileage improvement and most probably not a performance improvement either. The oil treated K&N filter probably has more pressure drop across it than the stock filter.

If you chose to go aftermarket intake, make sure you get more filter surface area than the stock filter.

You want to minimize the pressure drop across the filter, therefore more surface area should yield less pressure drop.

You also want a tube that tends to keep the flow laminar. Turbulence also causes more pressure drop to the throttle body than laminar flow.

I've heard that the Air Raid CAI has yielded a performance improvement. An intake upgrade that causes a performance improvement (assuming no other motor upgrades) will do so by reducing the pressure drop from filter to thottle body. That pressure drop improvement will likewise improve mpg, though it might only be a half mile per gallon or so.

I thought that the K and N intake systems had a larger filter to produce more air flow. Do they actually help with hp as well, like they advertise?

For now being so new to the truck the power will be great. But after a lil while you'll want that just a little bit more which the tuner and air filter combo will definately do. It also gives the truck just a little deeper drone sound to it which sounds just a little tougher also. I have the tuner/filter combo. The other day I hammered my pedal to beat a jag in a lil mustang. My truck gave those 35'' tires a little chirp when it shifted into second gear. Thats not easy to do with an automatic and that size tires. Needless to say I won he he he.

I put a K&N on mine. The K&N gets rid of that big air baffle before the throttle body and the intake of the K&N goes right into the throttle body (without the ********* air baffle thing).

I'm seeing about .5-1.0 Mpg increase in efficiency after three or four full tanks since I installed it.

I'm not noticing any power increase (or decrease).

The sound is awesome too.

Avalanche, what brand do you recommend for me when I am ready?

Most of the air filters are relatively the same in function and performance. I went with the sct 5star tune/air filter combo. Mention your from this site they are a vendor. You'll have 3 tunes to choose from. I recommend 87 fuel economy, 87 performance, and 93 performance. If your going to be doing any kind of slightly heavier towing there is also a towing performance tune also. Towing performance tune helps your shift points for more torque I would imagine. My advice. Dont skrew around and order it. I waited for a while and when I received and installed I was regretful that I didnt do it from the get go.

I have an AIRAID set up for sale. Oil type filter. $200.00. It was too loud for my old ass, took it off after about 70 miles. Takes 6 minutes to install. It would work better with a tune to take advantage of more air. I will ship to you for $20 more.
