I had the same issue with my AFE (too much noise) and was ready to go back to stock. Here's the cheap fix if you still have your stock intake. Disconnect the MAF connector and pull the engine side rubber bell and AFE tube out of the truck leaving the AFE filter housing and rubber coupler in place. Remove the MAF sensor. Cut 7.5 inches off of the engine end of the AFE tube. De-burr the cut end it inside and out. Apply a small amount of lube to the outside of the cut end and shove the AFE tube inside the stock tube (it’s a tight fit but it will but it will go in as far as the last wrinkle in the factory bellows section) and align the MAF flange so it faces the front of the truck. Install the modified intake tube and tighten clamps. Reinstall the MAF sensor and attach the connector. Take her for a spin. Notice that the annoying sound is gone but you still have a functional CAI that in my opinion flows better than the standard AFE.

That looks and probably sounds great!
I hated the way some CAI made my older trucks sound.

Charley, call the guys at AIRAID and ask them to send you enough airbox gasket to go all the way around your AFE airbox. It'll make all the difference in the intake honk you're hearing.

I honestly wouldnt mind the growl if it happend when my foot was 75% of the way to the floor... I grew up with carbs... the sound of hitting the secondaries is pleasing to me when I have my foot in it. My issue is this growl happens when I am 10% into the pedal.. any idea if this changes?

It may be just me but, I really did not notice a huge difference in sound when I did my AFE. The only time I really hear it is while under load, like in the dunes, and at certain times you can hear that "SSSSSSSSS" noise from sucking the air in. Other than that, I'm not hearing this loud noise some of you are talking about. Then again, I did my headers at the same time.

Yeah, with the headers you can EASILY overlook the intake noise. I am a big fan of that "SSSSSSSS" sound you are describing though. Sounds like a subtle version of a throttle body spacer. lol.
