For my first 2000 miles I am seeing that the actual mileage is at least 1 MPG less than the displayed. Was really excited on our first highway trip until I filled the tank.
Interesting, I didn’t do any manual calculations just relied on the computer

Totally. You guys should take a mini sledge to the cruise control switches like I did! WOT that MF’er every chance you get and **** highway cruising speeds! It’s the only way to prove you have a ****! :rolleyes:

You can calibrate the gauge to read accurately, by setting a multiplier on the displayed value using "Engineering Test Mode":


After testing with gas used per mile vs the computer, I set mine to 941, i.e., my truck gets 94.1% of the original mileage. It tends to be within 3% accurate now, plus or minus.

Calibration using the Engineering mode is the way to go. I did it a couple years ago to my 2018 and now it is typically accurate to +/- 0.1 MPG. Prior to that I was often over 1.5 MPG off. Today I can typically go in with a quarter tank showing (3/4 empty), and using the data from Trip 1 divide the miles driven by the indicated MPG, multiply by the price of fuel, and often predict the total fuel cost to within 50 cents on a $100 fill up. Particularly if I happen to use the same station and pump as the last fill up.

My Trip 1 Odo gets reset every fill-up, and my Trip 2 Odo gets reset at every oil change.

I get around 17.5 driving to work and back (about 50% city and 50% highway). On long road trips (mostly highway) I get 23-25. Completely stock truck, just my personal experience. I expect it to go down after overland gear and modding

Unless your highway trips are at 45 mph, show it on Fuelly or I call BS. If you’re quoting your lie-o-meter in the cluster it is likely way out of calibration, you should hand calculate it.

Guys used to claim 28-30 mpg highway on their 3/4 ton diesel trucks on the Cummins forum, I called BS on them too. Nobody would ever prove their numbers.

At the 17.5 or at the 23-25? The 17.5 seems fine, the 23-25 seems a little good to me. On the other hand, if he is going by the indicated and has not calibrated it, maybe. Prior to calibrating my MPG indications (using the Engineering mode) I showed 22 or a bit over on several occasions.

I know that wasn't my post, but I can get over 18 honest MPG on my daily trip (50/50 desert highway and desert community) if I do the speed limit and are not hard on the take-offs. Hyper miling, using every technique I can think of to extend mileage, I can push high 19's. On extended road trips I have pushed over 20-21 for complete tanks. And I run my tires soft (33R/36F), I think I could do better if I ran the tires harder, but I ain't going to put up with the rougher ride.

On the other hand, I said I can get those mileages, not that I do on a regular bases. I did not buy the truck for its mileage, in fact I am pretty sure I never even looked at the EPA estimates before buying the truck. If I drive how I want to I get more like 13-15 on my daily drive. And depending on the music playing I might get in the 11's. Funny how music influences gas mileage.... Right now my Trip 2 Odo is showing 13.8 MPG for the 2400 miles since my last oil change, but normally, at the time of most oil changes, that would be in the mid 14's or low 15's. In the winter I get slightly better numbers than in the summer, and the 110+, sometimes 115+, deg F temps for the last couple weeks have not helped.
