GEN 1 About to spend 1500 on rebuilt shocks, need advice.

I had bought a 2011 SVT Raptor this last Jan. knowing I would have to either rebuild or replace the shocks on her. She has 64k miles and a squeak that is either from the Shocks or possibly the Leaf Spring? I noticed the Leafs might be worse then I thought.

So here's where I am, I am 5 hours away from place in South Dakota. Place called Shocks By Hammer. If Anyone knows this place or has used their services please let me know.

Brian (the owner) seems like a nice enough guy and as far as I can tell knows what hes doing. So the deal is I am to drive up there 5 hours one way, they take my shocks off, put rebuilt and refinished shocks on and he keeps the shocks off my Raptor. 1200 for the shock 300 for the on/off. Then once he goes through and rebuilds the ones off my Raptor, there is a possible rebate. Looking for Advice, does this sound pricey or fair? Should I spend that money to buy the Kits and tools to do it myself? I am capable tho I am lacking some tools atm.

I bought new ones off of rock auto, around $1400. Backs are easy, let the dealership do the fronts for $250ish (2.5 hrs labor). Have heard mixed reviews of rebuilds, fair number of people report leaks.

I can spin a wrench but the front shock bolt is 425ft/lb at spec, you'll need air tools if you diy. One of the other bolts needs a vice grip to hold as well which can be a pita.

And if you want to rule out the shocks for the squeak just take off the back shocks. Jack up the rear till tires couple inches off, loosen both bolts and it drops out. Need a bottle jack to get it back in (expand the leaf) and I centered it with a screwdriver to get the bolt lined up

For about 1400$ you can get brand new ones from rock Auto. Save your old shocks and send them back to fox to be rebuilt. Probably cost you 200 or more in gas to drive the 1000 miles and you would have new instead of rebuilt.

Thank you for the replys, I have the ability, just missing impact and torque wrench, I can get that pretty easy.

Bad deal.

Like others have said, buy new ones online and keep your old ones to get rebuilt down the line to swap back on when the new ones need to be rebuilt.

Or, sell them for $400-500+ and regain some lost coin.

Get the new shocks and have a dealer install them if there is no other independent shop out there you trust.

On my 2013 i had a squeak that drove my nuts for months. Lubed everything from exhaust rubber mounts to leaf springs. finally had my wife drive it while I laid in the bed (agreeably not one of my better ideas) to see where it was coming from. The tailgate latch on the right side!!!!!! about every other month I had to spray it with some lube and it would go away.

+1 on buying new from Rock Auto. I've done the same. Rebuild the old ones for the next time.

Got my brand new shocks from RockAuto. $20 for shipping and they got here next day, can't complain at all there.
