A buddy of mine traded his '11 Raptor in and before he did, de-modded it quite a bit. So I jumped on this opportunity to grab his AFE intake and SCT tuner with 5 star tunes. From what we had read online, as long as he returned his back to stock and our trucks were the same, this would work. NO!
When the programming seemed to be complete, the tuner ran itself to 101%, which was weird right off the bat, Then wouldn't start. We then tried to return back to stock and the tuner gave a 1027 error followed by a 1016 error. Being a saturday am, and no one is open I decided to email Mike @ 5star tuning ( who wrote the original tunes). He told me that I would have to wait until Monday morning to speak with SCT. The truck was in a bad spot to be immobile, and being I had free towing, I towed it to Ford. My thinking was they could just re-flash the truck to stock. NO!
They couldn't even communicate with multiple modules, ad their fix was to start replacing them (PCM and Cluster to name a few $1200). So i decided to take Mike's advice and wait until Monday morning.
I know people have bad mouthed SCT's customer service, but I found them to be EXTREMELY helpful and thorough. It was easy to get ahold of a tech and they handled the problem very promptly. Within an hour and a half They had downloaded what they needed from me and wrote me a recovery tune and mailed it back. On top of that they accessed my computer directly and took care of everything.
Once the truck was back up and running Mike @ 5star Had questioned me on my driving habits and plans, and had new tunes written for my truck within a couple hours. Downloaded and uploaded and my truck is running beautifully.
If this happens to anyone, don't freak out, and don't take it to the dealership, Just wait and get ahold of SCT. Special thanks to Dave at SCT and Mike at 5star, Lots of help and a great product in the end. Highly recommended upgrade, throttle response is wicked!
Hope this helps anyone out there who might try to run a used programmer, Just make sure you get the tunes re-written on it for YOUR specific truck.
