If the hitch has any damage, even a scratch, they will replace it. On a F150, its a bolt on part of the rear frame. There are several different versions.

After it runs through an insurance claim it will be on a Carfax etc. You may be better off buying a bumper from eBay. There are a lot of cheap original takeoffs out there & replace any other parts that are bent yourself. Otherwise you're going to take a hit when you go to resell it. Also insist that the police press charges for him hitting your vehicle and leaving the scene of the accident.

Stopped for an accident yesterday, some punk skater puke put his POS BMW into the rear bumper of my truck. Then, like an entitled snot-nosed Gen Alpha is wont to do, he ran.

Since he had to go through an active accident scene to get away, one of the attending cops peeled off and got him a mile or so up the road.

I came away with his contact info and report showing me at zero-fault.

I took a look at the damage this morning, and it appears to entirely be in the bumper, with maybe a ding or two on the plastic cap. There’s a light scuff on the tow hook, but my backup lights and tail pipes appear to have come out unscathed. Satisfyingly, the front of his BMW was thrashed pretty bad.

I think I could get away with bolting on a new bumper (OEM or aftermarket) and be no worse for the wear- but do need to do a more detailed inspection to be sure.

I haven’t had an insurance claim in 20+ years. What should I look out for? Is there a way to avoid my premiums taking a hit? A hit to the value of my truck? And, more importantly, anything I can do to ensure Skyler McDoucebag gets his ******** gets stretched good and proper in the clink?

Your rates should not increase.
Make sure every nut, bolt, triim, etc, etc is repaired to perfection
The other guy's insurance will be paying and should also cover any deductible.

My wife had a very similar accident as you described. State Farm initially denied her diminished value claim but caved and paid twice what we were asking one they were contacted by the lawyer. You're truck will always be worth less because there will be an accident on the record and they need to pay you the diminished value

Car fax is pain in the ass.

I had the bumber cover on my kids audi repainted due to rock chips, and the fricken autobody place reported it. The car fax showed "body damage - $800" or some nonsense like that.

Also, the ford dealer created a RO for my raptor and put the wrong mileage in error. I caught it a couple of days later and the created another RO with the correct mileage. I'm waiting for Carfax to show odometer mismatch or some ******** like that.

Antifa needs to burn that place down....

I looked, and the bracket the bumper-half bolts to is bent too. I can’t tell if that is part of the hitch or not, but it does look like a more complicated part swap than just the bumper.

I'd go thru insurance and have everything fixed right. Since it wasn't your fault your insurance shouldn't go up at all. If it does it would be minimal.and worth getting your truck fixed right and by his insurance.
