Hey strangers. Hope nobody replies to this cause ya'll are busy getting to / playing at Raptoberfest!
Figured I'd share a few of my latest mods. When I searched I didn't find many pics of this combo, so maybe this will help someone else out.
First the biggie: gone is the FoldACover and on went a new (to me) a loaded Leer 100R!
Don't get me wrong, the day I pulled the FoldACover it still worked as well as the day I put it on. I'd buy another in a heartbeat if I needed one. But the way I've been using the truck over the last year or two has really lent itself to having a camper shell, instead of a tonneau cover. And so I've been keeping an eye on Craigslist for some time, looking for a shell that would work (since I wasn't willing to drop $2300 on a new one). Eventually (after about a solid year of looking) up popped this one; its a Leer 100R, with all the upgrades I'd have added myself, less than 2 years old, darn near new condition... $700.
There's not much argument regarding the functionality, but I know the look isn't for everyone. IMHO the dovetailed rear of my Raptor puts the look over the top and makes the cap look like it belongs. If you squint just a little bit, this is how I can imagine an SVT Bronco looking if Ford ever stepped up.
To wire it up, I didn't feel like hacking into my OEM harness. So I bought one of these: Hopkins 20146 8' 7 RV Blade Molded Trailer Cable A few minutes of layout and fenagling, and some zip ties, and I had all the connections I needed, where I needed them.
By the way, only the addon harness is zip tied down solid. The OEM harness is easily removed and reinstalled into the mount on the bumper when in comes time to tow.
I used the aux power from the hitch (normally for charging a trailer's battery), to power the shell's interior LED, and to power this: Blue Sea Systems 12 Volt Dash Socket
The aux is usually only powered up when the key is in accessory or when the engine is running. To make it powered up all the time, I pulled relay 9 and replaced it with a jumper I made.
I also replaced fuse 22 from the usual 30 amp, down to a 20amp. That's more than enough for what I plan to do back there.
While I had everything apart anyway, I installed a DeeZee EZ Down. No idea why I didn't do this sooner. It rocks!
Anywho, thought you might like to see and I hope it helps others looking for pics or to do something similar. Fire away with any questions. Happy to answer if I can.
