Ford has all the eggs in the ecoboost engine, they aren't going to put anything else in their flagship performance truck, especially since its an aluminum body with attention paid to weight... The all aluminum turbo 3.5 is 449 lbs dressed, I haven't seen any numbers on the 7.3l but it seems safe to assume its going to be heavier than the 6.2l since its geared to industrial; the 6.2 weighs around 640 fully dressed, sticking another 200lbs on the nose of an already front heavy pickup doesn't scream performance and off road handling. Also the 3.5l will likely have much better EPA economy ratings.

The 7.3l is making peak power at 5500 rpm, torque at 4k. Looking at a dyno sheet, I would assume a little more cam could bump the power up the range a bit, but as I said earlier the specific output of the engine is low, lower than the 6.2l. This makes me think the head architecture isn't really set up for high flow. The bottom end will likely be heavy, robust components also limiting the RPM potential. It will be interesting to see how the numbers on this engine change over the next few years, as ford tends to bump up their power ratings through model years. Its slightly oversquare, port fuel injection and "low compression" (I cant find an actual number) Its meant to feel good towing and at low speeds... opposite of what a Raptor does.

If there is a special edition raptor it will probably be a high output coyote variant.

Crate engine is 417 without accessory drive. The 449 number was based off of a wikipedia entry, seems reasonable for an EPAS vehicle.

How much less does it weigh? They are both cast iron block, aluminum head plastic intake. I will be interested to see.

If you've ever towed anything heavy (near max GVWR) with the raptor you know its far too compliant to be a competent tow rig, and having towed the same loads with an ecoboost f150 my opinion is that it is the better engine for that duty in the 1/2 ton weight class... it didn't need fixing.
