You can get the full 7 out and put the full 7 in if you do this one thing:

Let the crankcase drain with the old filter off.

Removing the filter apparently releases oil from a gallery that does not drain with just the drain plug removed from the crankcase. But if you've replaced the plug to pull the filter, then that dirty oil simply drains into the crankcase and is retained. Result: you don't get 7 quarts in, and you start out with contaminated oil.

Try this: "Fully" drain the crankcase, replace the drain plug, pull the old filter, and then remove the drain plug again and see how much MORE dirty oil drains out.

You'll be fine at 7.

My engine (5.0) takes 7.7qts and I just put a full 8qts. in it. I've had no problems.

I've never gotten all 7 quarts in. Usually ends up a little over 6.5 quarts and I keep the remaining and add it as the engine consumes a little oil over several thousand miles.

Yeah this is what I have been doing. I'm on my 6th oil change and tweaking it to get it full, is becoming a pain. I think this time, I'll let it drian a lot longer than I normally do and see if it allows the full 7 or not. I have heard rumors over the years that the Raptor was designed to be on the mid pearch adjustment to begin with, but DOT regs pushed Ford to use the bottom adjustment. I wonder if this is why no one seems to be able to get a ful 7 qts and not be over the full line on the stick. I just seems strange to me. In my life I have had countless numbers of new and used vehicles, and this is the first one that you couldn't trust the Manaufactures qty spec.
