I'm just wondering why your truck sounds SOOOOOO much better than mine? It's literally night and day. What magnaflow muffler are you running specifically?

Thanks!

I agree - that sounds damn good. Was that setup with headers/cats? or just a cat-back Magnaflow?

I have watched both those clips about 10x. That Glamis run is funny as hell. Oh to have that sound on my Raptor...:)

Seemed like from the posting at the time of the video, he had not yet installed the Kooks stuff. So I was assuming it was just a 3" inlet/outlet muffler to a 4" tip. I am REALLY hoping that is the case...

I also did a bit of poking around on YouTube and found that the magnapack (round, straight thru) sound substantially different than the "universal" oval I'm running. I had wondered about this at the time of install as it did not have the same nasty sound another truck I had with the magnapack on it. It has a distinct throaty sound on throttle and it "pops" when you let off on the gas.

If this is really the difference in sound (i.e. just the muffler) then I need to find out EXACTLY what muffler he has and get over to the shop. I am thinking of just dumping before the rear axle so the system is hidden and has fewer bends. I've got the 2 stainless tips right now but that look seems a bit at odds with the "I'm gonna run over your hybrid civic..." look of the Raptor...:)

Ok found it.....MagnaFlow Exhaust Products - For Trucks, Suv's, American Muscle, Diesel, & Sport Compact Vehicles

My set-up in those vids are just the muffler, I don't have my other mods on yet. On Magnaflow's site, in the universal section, there's a muffler called Magnapack and it's just a round body tube shape. They only show the name on one section of muffler's but all the ones listed below it, that look like it, are Magnapack's as well......I called and confirmed this when I bought mine. I have the 3in/ single 3out, 4" around, 14" body and 22" total length. Magnaflow also told me that the shorter or smaller body you go, the louder it gets. I feel mine is juuuuust right. The glasspack's they offer are similar but not the same, even though they look like the Magnapack. My stock muffler was cut out and the Magnapack welded in it's place.....that way, it's the stock tubing and mounting point towards the front where it connects to the y-pipe.

Also, I found mine for way cheaper online through Summit, think I paid just over $100.

Awesome! I had poked around on their site and figured it was this one. Your truck is fairly notorious for it's sound. I saw a posting on another forum ( :) ) where the guy said "This video does not do it justice. We all ran over there to see what the hell he was running...". I've already been on the phone with the exhaust shop...:)

Thanks

System is going on Thursday. I'm gonna dump it before the rear axle and see how it sounds. If it's totally obnoxious, I will put the visible tailpipe on it. I will post pics and possibly some sound...

Thanks SOCO! I'll be quite happy with the sound this produces without having to get into headers and custom cats. SOLD!

Yup - I'm spitting the new plumbing out in front of the rear tire too - takes less abuse.
If some people find it obnoxious - fuckit - Loud pipes save lives :flamingdevil:

I cant wait to do it. May try to take off from work early tomorrow to do it sooner. The thought of causing every car alarm in our parking garage to go off is compelling. :)

I've had this on the mind lately as well. Apprentley when Deavers are run, the axle hits the exhaust where it goes over. So I was thinking that when I get mine on, I may dump it like you're talking about. I'm just wondering if it would be too obnoxious in the cab with long tubes/magnapack/dumped.

I haven't seen anyone talk about it but has anyone seen thses yet?http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/offRoadProSeries.asp
I called Magnaflow a while back about it and it's not a Magnapack muffler but just some high performance one they have.

I'm gonna try to do it today and will be able to let you guys know shortly. I spoke at length about it with a shop out here. The guy there said he has done a similar setup and it is loud but not too bad. I'm going to have them aim the dump at about 45 degrees so it's not directly down at the road. My plan is to drive it for 2-3 days and if it's bad, I will go back and have them put on pipes over the axle.

Awesome!!!!!

Got the new setup installed this afternoon. It took all of 25 minutes from start to finish. Attached are a couple of fairly rough photos. Per SOCOMech's advice I installed the Magnapack 14419 which is a 3" round setup. It's super small...

Now for the good part....

The sound is awesome. It's throaty and nasty as hell under load. Louder in all conditions. But (and this is really surprising) the drone is no worse than the old Magnaflow universal I had on there. You get some drone at 1750 RPMs but it's no louder than what I had on there before. So while you can certainly hear the engine much better, you can always hear the phone, music, etc. You just have to hear this thing under a lot of pedal to believe it. Holy chit...

Also, I have noticed zero ill effects from the downturn under the truck. No smell, no booming and no extra heat around the system. I took it for a long drive and then got under it and felt the surfaces near the pipe. Barely warm...

In short, this is how the truck should have been delivered. Many thanks to SOCOMech for answering my questions and the awesome post...
