Why are the ford engines not rated as high as the chevy?

And there are way less options on them

Is the 6.2 classified as a big block or small block?

And it strikes me funny that as American muscle cars and truck builders and proud owners we have adopted the metric system for discussing our displacement. I had to type in the 6.2 liters into a conversion table to see that it was 378 cubic inches so it made sense in my head.

I know that's because I'm old.

I'm dutch, so i like it

Tbh inches pounds and feet are hard for me
But less then 400 just looks weak ;)

6,2 L looks more massive to me
And most car manufactorers use the cc or litre designation

But who cares... Its all about the horses en torque

The true displacement is 379 cubic inches, and I would prefer if we referred to it as that, but most people don't want to take the time to learn it's true displacement

I'll ask it again, since we got sidetracked.

Is the block a big block or a small block?

Just curious, why do you care?

To answer your question, it's neither. The Big/Small block classification is based on the external dimensions of the block. So a 396 Chevy is considered a Big Block and a 400 Chevy is a Small Block. Displacement is not the determining factor - even though big blocks tend to have a higher displacement of course.

Small/Big block terminology is used when the manufacturer offers both a larger and smaller exterior engine design. So to use Pontiac as an example, since all of their V8's had the same exterior dimensions, a Pontiac V8 is not referred to as a big or small block. Just try to find a die-hard Pontiac Enthusiast that calls a 455 a big block....you won't.
