Sorry to resurrect this old thread but I wanted to post a video (tapping/knocking begins about 15 secs in) to ask if this is the noise that members are experiencing? My dealer wants to replace cam phazer and while I believe the techs are capable I'd like to prevent the backlash in the event I don't ask first and find myself ****** in the wind.

My noise is only apparent on start up it seems and sometimes accompanies a very short duration rough idle. My first thought was lifter slow to pump up but what the hell do I know!

Any opinions greatly appreciated! Thanks for listening.

(already tried E30 ... thanks Wilson!)

That was in the original post referring to one of your earlier posts. It was not edited.

Thanks to everyone for taking a listen to the video. The dealer showed the video to his Ford rep who came up with the cam phazer. I guess I'll have to drop her off & hope for the best. Thanks again!!

I'm sure you'll be in great hands at your dealership, SERG09. What's your Raptor's model year/mileage? I'd like to research some options to help.

The local dealer took her for a week trying to duplicate the noise on startup to no avail. I'll post if I'm able to resolve the problem. Thanks

I'm no internal engine guru but you may want to pull the oil filter and see if you see any metal in there. You may have to wipe some of the oil with a clean white paper towel and hold it up in the sunlight.

That tapping is way louder than the normal 'tick' we get at start up and mine stops making any ticking noise after just a few seconds, no matter how cold it is.

Another option that you could use is when you do the next oil change, take a sample of it and have it analyzed by someone who knows what they are looking for. Not sure where you live, but around here Caterpillar does it and it will tell you if you have anything coming apart inside your engine.

Just my $.02......
