6.2 Goodbye

Still rumors. Nothing about the raptor engine....yet.

Well they're not doing away with gasoline V8's. That link says that the F150 will have the 5.0 V8 as an option.

It stands to reason that they would just pull and SVT motor that's already in production and drop it into the Raptor. I could be wrong, but they're at least still making an N/A V8 motor for the truck.

I will say this. The 5.0 is stout. On the strip, I got beat by a length. My 2011 raptor screw 6.2 vs an xlt 5.0 on 35's, also a supercrew. Since then he went to a procharger with upgraded race intercooler. Now he definitely has me....


Maybe ford would consider doing a centrifugal supercharger set up on the 5.0 motor for 2016 IF the raptor comes back. Lots of advantages to a centrifugal supercharger. No direct heat from engine (on top of block like a supercharger or on the exhaust manifold like a turbo) so the service life would be greatly improved. And with smarter filtering, it would be okay in the dirt/sand/mud/water. Not to mention you still get the whine WITH the blow off valve sound as well.

I had a 2012 Boss 302, and that is certainly a fine engine. I would like to see Ford offer a six-cylinder diesel in their half-ton pickups.

the 6.2 will stay for the superdutys, The F150dropping it is no surprise since they only offered it in the platinum and raptors. They built way more other lower end trim models with ecoboosts so its no wonder they say the 6.2 isnt popular in the 150s.

Its hard to say what the next gen raptor will have but I can say the 6.2 will be around for a while in the superduty market.

Everything you described below is the 5.0L V8. In the mustang, the 5.0L V8 produces roughly the HP and torque as the 6.2. And given the weight savings with an alum body and also alum engine, I bet ford will go with the 5.0L v8 in the next raptor. Ford will leave it to the aftermarket if owners want a turbo or supercharger

Now, here's hoping they give us a Raptor-specific 6.2 with upgraded 4 valve heads, DOHC, valve timing, direct injection, maybe even an aluminum block.

I watched Barrett Jackson this weekend and Ford announced only 19,000 and change 5.0 L Mustangs were going to be built for 2015 and number one was given to charity.
And that's all they said.

All the speculation doesn't mean anything until the truth (and the Raptor information) comes out from Ford.

Here's some feed for you speculators...

Ford has a Mustang GT350R that it's been testing using a motor derived from the 5.0-liter Coyote V8. It has slightly higher displacement and it puts out over 500HP using a flat-plane crank. It sounds fantastic.
