4WD Solenoid Question

Hey guys I have a 2010 Raptor with the 6.2L in it. My question is about the 4wd solenoid lines...one of my lines is disconnected and where it goes is capped off. I got it from the dealership like this and the 4wd works fine. Today I was at Ford getting some starting and ignition issues looked at and I mentioned to the tech about this and he claims my 4wd should not work but it does. Any ideas thoughts about what going on?

The front hubs are locked in all the time with that line disconnected. Most likely there was some issue with the system and this was someones quick fix. In the big picture you are losing some MPG and a little more wear and tear on the front axle diff and axle shafts, but not a huge issue. But if it was me, I would hook it up and work to figure out what the issue may be.

Thanks for the info! That would explain why when I put the line back on today the truck acted as if it were in 4wd...I wonder what it could be and why they did that?

Could be as simple as a leak in one of the vacuum lines, this happens. Or the lock out hub units they call IWE. It is weird though that you mention it acted like it was in four wheel drive when you put the line back on. That should not happen. When it is running with the line connected it is supposed to unlock the hubs and be in two wheel drive. But keep in mind this does not effect the transfercase at all, only the front hubs.

Thanks again for the replys. This is a huge help. You really narrowed it down for me. I was at the stealership yesterday and the guy had no clue until I pointed it out not to mention I'm out of my warranty so I told him to just stop what he does doing b/c he was clueless.

I forget to mention when I reconnected the line I engaged the 4wd and then went back to 2wd and the truck acted like it was still in 4wd (tight steering wheel) I was on concrete which I know isn't good but I was just feeling it out. So I shut the truck off, removed the line, and put the cap back on and it was fine.

I bet the vacuum valve is bad. I've had mine replaced and it's a 2012.

I'm going to try and replace the vacuum valve and see if that solves my problem. Location of the valve? Going to have my mechanic put it in and buy the part from stealership.

It's to the right of the brake reservoir in your picture. Simple enough you could change it out.

If you take it to a mechanic have them draw a vacuum on the system to see if it holds.
