Not running 40’s but do have some experience with mickey Thompson’s.

I had the baja ATZ’s on my 06 ram. Had them for about 47,000 miles basically all on road) and they had about 30-40% tread left.

I have the baja ATZ P3’s on the raptor and they are doing well. They have about 8,000 on them with about 750-1000 offroad. They have been through lots of different terrains and I don’t have any complaints.

I think MT is looking to release an ATZ variant on April 6th, so may want to check that out, not sure if they will have it in a 40 though.

thanks for the input, like you said even though your experience is a different application its still good to hear that the mickeys are holding up well.

im not sure the ATZ is going to offer me the amount of off road traction im wanting. the 39 km3s i used to run were nice but as the new owner of that truck just experienced in thicker sand they have a bit of wheel spin.

flight to NV $290
2800 miles of driving
~10 mpg
23 gal fuel tank
~230 mile range / 3 hr of driving

280 gal of gas
~2.89 gal

and im sure at least one/two nights in hotel @ ~$80/night

gas $809
flight $290
lodging $200

total $1300 in expenses

you forgot the flight from florida back to co
yeah basically the math comes out to "break even" and spend 36 hours in a seat. this is why i am still waiting for it to just be shipped. cause im not sure i will even like the truck anymore after 36 hours of straight driving lol

the first 12 hours would be fun... then id start looking for a cliff hahaha

Yea, terrain plays a huge factor. For me they have done pretty well in the mud and “ok” in the sand from North Carolina, Talladega National Forest, and Blackwater National Forest in Florida etc. Areas with deeper sand is a littler harder, but keep the momentum and they are ok. I did notice I get pretty loose when on hard dry clay with a light layer of dust on it though, especially on braking.

I know they're relatively new but the Yoko MT G003 is a 40x13.50R17 listed at 87lbs. Everybody seems to like them thus far.

How are they labeling it a load range D and yet somehow lighter than even the 39 km3?!

almost 20lbs lighter than the most similar toyo MT...though that 50 psi is going to kill any onboard air systems.

But at the end of the day id say the yoko, toyo, and bfg all look relatively the same.

i just wonder if the mickey Thompson will look odd on a raptor?

lets be honest thats all we really care about haha

what is your idea of "on-road" time? Are you hoping to drive the truck 1000 miles a month on-road?

I ask because I'd run KR3s or Toyo race tires. If you are going into deep sand, get some paddles.

The "street tire" options in 40" really suck.

I got about a year and a half out of my first set of KR3s. In miles that translated to 5000ish hard offroad miles and about 3000 mixed on-road miles. When I took them off, I'd say that they had 30% left on them. No leaks, some cupping, never even really rotated them, never had a flat or issue.

As long as you don't plan on driving around in ambient temps below 45 degrees, I think you'd like them. I have no idea how many miles you'd get out of them. They aren't cheap.

They just released the 3.0 compound that is supposed to cup/chunk less than the version I have.
