OK, spoke with Ryan at SDHQ. Very enlightening. One of the questions he answered was Euro beam...it's like a spot beam but without the blind spot in the middle. Also edumicated me on how LED's aren't really a high speed driving light as they don't reach out there like HID's (even though lumens may be way higher on LED's). So I might be rethinking the light bar and go with HID's instead. His price shipped with everything needed to mount....$1550.

Next I'll talk to Rigid. Sorry if this is old hat for some of you. I'm just thinking out loud here....

I got no argument with HIDs being better for reach. I suggest you look at less expensive HIDs because you can get the Ford lightbar and 4 HID lights for a LOT less $$$ than that (no, they won't be the almighty KCs).

Yes, they would be.

Who do you think the OEM is for the Ford HID lamps? (answer: KC)

I haven't seen a light bar brighter/with more reach than the four 50 watt KC HID lamps on my truck. Not trying to start a pissing war, but I concur with SDHQ Ryan.

Thanks for the input Tim. Also spoke with Seth at Rigid, also very helpful. Thinking I may do a combo of LED's and HID's.

Dan, the link you provided confirmed some other stuff I've read/heard about the two LED bars.

The huge advantage of the LED's is "instant on" - so if you need all the light right away (flash to pass or something else) that's the way to go.

The HID's need to warm up to reach full brilliance. We aren't talking a half an hour here, but there is a warm up time. One pro of the HID is the bulb is replaceable. (don't really care about the 50,000 hour life claim on the LED's....that is an estimate based on many variables.) So, if your HID blows out, go get another bulb.

If your bar dies, or partly dies or some element blows you have to send the entire unit (yeah that means taking it off your truck, shipping it out, not having it on the truck and then re-installing it) out to the manufacturer while Mr. HID goes down the street to Parts Store "A" and picks up a bulb. (might be a little more involved but you get my drift)

I'm for both technologies as referenced by whatis on my truck (both HID and LED)
