Hey, guys --

Just picked up my 2019 Velocity Blue Raptor a couple of weeks ago. I love it, but this is my first 4x4 truck and I have a question:

It says in the manual (several places) that you shouldn't use 4-wheel drive unless conditions are icy/slick.

I'm completely stunned by this. Part of the reason I bought the 4x4 is so I can have 4x4 to run around maintaining a property I own. Some of it is steep hill, etc.

What do you guys do when you go off road? Ignore the recommendation?

Really enjoying this site. Thanks for any input!

Run the 4x4 how you want. It basically is saying don't have it in 4x4 for pavement, and really, going in a straight line on pavement in 4x4 is fine but when you try to turn it will bind the drivetrain and cause unnecessary strain on the locking diffs.

Feel free to use the 4x4 offroad all you want.

Check your manual and read up on the all wheel drive mode. Sounds like that is what you need. I wouldn't use 4x4 mode unless the hill is extremely steep or slippery. The AWD mode will essentially give you 4 wheel drive, but not do any damage on dry ground.

This. Put the truck in 4A and you will have your AWD on demand and no worry of binding up the differential.

Of course if you feel you need put the hoss in 4H or 4L and let her run!

If you do the Raptor Assault well worth your time you will learn all you want about this truck and get to do some really cool stuff.
