Hey guys, Thanks for the warm welcome in the new members thread. I picked up a Raptor for my daily driver, replaced a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and will add some mods over time I'm sure.
I've taken the truck on a few trips so far to get a feel for how it preforms and what needs changing to fit my needs.
Trips to date Range from the snow, off road parks to Death Valley and camping trips. A few trip picks
What I learned:
Sleeping: I like to keep the ability to sleep in the bed of the truck, this worked out real well on one trip and the GF is fine with the arrangement. This will make gear in the bed challenging and is lending toward a camper.
Lighting: The stock lights don't cut in 50 miles out in the great outdoors. I will need to address this in time.
Ground clearance: Need more! My wheeling partner is a XJ with 33's and 3.5' lift. It's like a goat and goes anywhere. I don't suspect to match the jeep but would like a bit better performance here. Action: 37's and mid perch happing on Friday. Factory rockers steps need to go too... Already smoked them.
Tires: Suspect this is a balance but the BFGs get a bit loud on long drives, don's suspect the ProComp 37's will be better but I want the clearance. Challenge - Tire will need to go in the bed for now.
Power: seems like more than good, don't see any changes needed.
Trans: Really want a manual, might swap this at some point. Auto seems to have a aggressive kick down to first when on the street.
Bumpers: Already smashed the stock one into the fender, will build high clearance units, dovetail rear and install rock sliders this winter.
Electronics: MS Sync Nav is crap, need to replace. I'll add radios, will never go out without them again. Like some radar detector too as I have three tickets and the Raptor costs 375 in insurance a month now.
Extra Fuel: Tank is a bit small for gas mileage. Tested my cheapo HF can and when filling the tank fuel leaked out allover, assuming from vent tube or anti syphon. Need to find a better solution to carry extra go fast juice.
Recovery, used a bubba road for the first time vs. a tow strap, what a beast! That happing for sure and will be on the x-mas list. Snatch Rope : Recovery Rope : Up to 52,300 lb. Breaking Strength : Bubba Rope
That all I can think of off the top of my head, I'll keep you all posted on the progress and fun.
