Its inferred, it's not an input from a real analog sensor. It's based off of fuel trims and it makes calculations from there. If you're 10% leaner all of the sudden it assumes it's you put in x.xx amount of ethanol. The problem with that is if you have a fueling issue and you're lean because of that issue (or some other issue, water in fuel?), and not because you put in ethanol, then the truck will assume you put in ethanol and will turn things up.
I prefer real sensors, not inferred guesstimates. Dodge does something similar. But assuming your truck is always in perfect running order, sweet! It does work. But if you have issues then it can get bad quick
