Sort of. I put some nice Forgestar wheels on my Mustang when I had it. I used an Adam’s ceramic wheel kit on those. I have not used a paint kit, though. I’ve done paint correction and Adam’s sealants on the Mustang and my current black RS with great results. I think that’s the hard part, no? The actual ceramic coating looks pretty simple as long as you follow directions well.
I will say, I have not physically seen a PB Raptor. I wanted to like the color, but a couple of the photos I saw I just didn’t like it. Some lighting made it look too powdery to me. I drove a half hour to see a VB Raptor and I definitely liked that color in person, that’s why I ordered it. You guys on here post pictures that make me not 100% sure I made the right choice. I just want you all to know, you’re making my waiting more difficult!
Haha, this place has that effect of making the waiting game even harder than it already is.
I have never done any paint correction (cutting/polishing) before, but have done plenty of detailing otherwise in my day. The correction process seemed pretty daunting to me, especially on such an expensive vehicle. Thankfully I was able to practice on my leased F150 before turning it in. And I will definitely say the correction process was the most difficult. The coating application itself was very straight forward.
A few things I noticed/did that weren't really covered in any videos I watched ahead of time:
- My old truck was black, which made the rainbowing hard to spot. When I couldn't see it, I just waited a minute or two and wiped.
- There were a few times where I felt I didn't apply enough coating on the applicator based on how it thin it spread. I eventually just got more comfortable applying a liberal amount. It seemed to wipe off all the same.
- I was very worried about high spots, since once they dry they're impossible to remove without abrasives. I made VERY sure to wipe off every bit of coating after a minute, and covered much more than the area I applied. I didn't notice any high spots.
Overall, much easier than I thought, so with your experience you'll be fine.
And I hear you on the color choice. I ordered my PB truck based on nothing other than a color swatch in a brochure. When I first started seeing photos, several looked powder blue and I thought I had made a mistake. But after seeing it in person, it's much darker in most lights, with more gray to it than velocity blue. I do get powder blue from it every now and then, but that's the entire point of that color.... It shifts depending on the light/angle.
But whatever paint you pick, it's a Raptor... So impossible to go wrong.
