I never knew people were doing that. Ill have to do some searching on this. So do they help that much that the camera is actually useful at night or backup lights still be useful?

It helps, but if your riding the brakes while backing up at night, the brake lights will still wash out the camera a little.

The Super Duty housings are not exactly plug and play. You have to enlarge the holes in the bumper pad a little for the super duty housings to fit but it's easy peasy.
