Why can't Ford just release a stamp sized proximity sensor for those of us that never use the buttons or key?

Mine should be here later today. Had a quick question, what is the "backup position"? And also we don't start the truck correct?

Backup position is the slot located under the rubber mat on the front cup holder. And yes, do not start the truck. Keeping your foot off the brake will let everything go smooth

Don't follow the manual or fords website. This is the correct sequence

1. You must have two working IA keys
2. Insert the 1st working key into the key slot in the center console. Key ring up buttons out.
3. Push the start/stop button and wait 5 seconds.
4. Push the start/stop button.
5. Remove the 1st key and place the 2nd working key in the key slot in the center consule. Key ring up buttons out.
6. Push the start/stop button and wait 5 seconds.
7. Push the start/stop button.
8. Remove the 2nd key and place the new key to be programmed in the key slot. Key ring up buttons out.
9. Push the start/stop button and wait 5 seconds.
10. Push the start/stop button.

The door locks should cycle and you will get a key successfully programed message on the

So.. Since I just upgraded to the 2018 style keys, I decided to head to the garage and tinker with my 2017 keys to try to make one "stamp size"... I have a decent background in working with small electronics and circuit boards as I used to work in a radio repair shop in the military before I switched jobs.. So I was pretty confident I could cut down some size.

I started off identifying the proximity module and the corresponding paths and equipment to operate the system.. I then trimmed off any excess circuit board with my Dremel and a pair of shears. I then got the magnifying glass out and cut off the little button nubs and made sure they could never be "pressed" again. And finally the battery...The key uses two watch style batteries, the batteries are stacked in parallel, meaning I can just use one to achieve the correct voltage at the cost of battery like being cut in half. I soldered leads to each side of the battery and ran them to their corresponding terminal.

I cut a piece off one of my wifes super thin cutting boards and hid the chip and battery inside the cutout. Wrapped everything in electrical tape, and BOOM!!! IT WORKS! Its the size of a credit card and as thick as 3-4 credit cards. It fits in my wallet with zero issues.

If this holds up for a week or so, I'm going to spend some additional time creating a neater version instead of this super ROUGH one lol. I have plans for a billet aluminum credit card instead of using my wifes kitchen tools lol I will also include much more pics. these are a few pics before I cleaned everything up and make it look pretty. its bed time and I was rushing lol
