I also special ordered my 14 without ever driving or riding in one. I was able to drive the gen2 before purchasing. If it wasn’t for the salt / onset of rust I would have gladly kept my gen1.

Same reason I gave up my gen1. Once I retire south I’ll no doubt be finding a clean low miles gen1 again. Best vehicle ever.

Interesting thread. I've been driving higher end German cars for years. Sold a loaded $90k X5 to buy my 14 Gen1 Raptor and loved it! Test drove a 19 Gen2 this week and I was extremely disappointed in the fit and finish of the interior! Glad to hear its not just me. And for those that think its just a truck, I don't think so. The higher model trucks have been designed to compete in a different market and when an F150 is over $50k the standards need to be higher.

Must be a case by case issue...

My paint had zero orange peel what so ever (I am a FREAK about car detailing so I know exactly what to look for in that regard) I did notice on my roof seam, that there was a paint blob in the little track above the driver door, looks like a pimple of paint. No one would notice unless you were cleaning the truck by hand standing on the side steps.

Fit and finish of the interior was on par with my former Porsche Cayenne, if not better. Tight, buttons are responsive, no scratches or marks in the dash, door seams and hood seams were all identical in size, nice thud when you close the door... I’m very impressed and extremely pleased. Quality on mine feels on par for the price.

I guess the moral of the story is to be careful and really inspect the truck you’re (potentially) buying.

Both of my Raptors have had good fit and finish, so it is not every one they sell.

I'm a member of the did-not-test-drive-before-signing-papers club too. I also told him I did not want the let-me-show-you-what-all-these-buttons-do introduction show before driving away. I wasn't rude, but I told the salesman (who I never met before my pick-up date) "sorry man, but I know more about this truck than you do, I want to leave now".

Most of the issues described sound like bad dealer prep to me.
I agree, except corrosion on aluminum parts, that sounds like flood damage to me. Orange peel is common to most vehicles, and it REALLY shows up on black paint and is sort of normal these days.

If you think Ford is building the Raptor to compete against Lexus, BMW, and Mercedes, then you really don't understand what the Raptor is about.

Almost all of the people complaining about the Raptor's build quality in this thread are coming from other "status" vehicles, not people who get their Raptor dirty using it the way it was designed.

Personally, I find it comical people buy a blue-collar brand and then complain it doesn't match up against their favorite "status" brand. But it isn't a surprise the most bad-ass truck on the market attracts all kinds of posers who only care about looks.
