2017 Raptor Safety Confusion—Collision Mitigation

Hello All,

Just purchased a preowned 2017 Raptor SCREW with tech package and I’m a little confused. What exactly is collision mitigation in their definition? I’ve read that with the radar for the adaptive cruise, there is a collision mitigation feature. Some boards say that it pre-charges your brakes for full stopping power. Others say, that is will actually start the braking process to mitigate impact. Which is it?

Also, I believe the tech package has lane keep assist. I tried to test it on an empty road by straying off, but it did not rumble the steering wheel like it said it should. Is there some other factor it looks into?

I have a ’17 802a as well. it will pre-charge the brakes and I’ve had the collision alarm and the truck slow without me braking. I think it was chopping the throttle, not dropping anchor. I posted a video from the go pro when it happened.

Adaptive cruise will apply the brakes for you, down to something like 12 mph. This can be fooled by a vehicle in another lane, ahead of you, rounding a slight turn. It’s disconcerting the first time it happens. The other 99.7% of the time it works great.

collision avoidance lights off the red dash lights and beeps at you, among other stuff.

LKA is activated and configured in the mega driver’s menu on the dash. it has wheel shake, auto correct and both. It has to sense a line on the road.

It beeps first then I think it will brake it self. It mistaked one time thinking I was going to crash and my brake slammed itself large and sound kicked in with some clunks for a split second. It was scary.

I would verify your settings in the dash menu as Smurfslayer recommenced. It’s probably off. I think he might need a provisional here, until proof is shown.

LKA is more than awake in my ‘19 SCREW. I do feel the steering wheel vibrations more than enough to know it’s active. It certainly tries to move you to the center of the lane if you get close enough to those lines. It may be over active at times, as I feel the steering wheels at times start to turn to get you away from the line. Since the truck is a wide body, I know we fill the lane more than an average sized car, meaning you have less error to keep yourself tracking in the center of a lane than a car with a similar system. But good to know the system is doing its job.

From my research collision mitigation that actually brakes for you (Collision Avoidance) wasn’t put in the raptors until 2019. That is one of the reasons I went for the ‘19 over an ‘18. I think they added the Lidar sensor in the ‘19s for that to work and for ACC to go below 12mph...not 100% sure on that though.

My advice it to READ THE MANUAL...if you don't have one you can easily get it off the Ford website. Different years operate differently. I have the 19 and the adaptive cruise works all the way to a stop and it will go again on it's own as long as it's not stopped for more than 3 seconds...then a tap on the gas or pressing resumes picks it right back up. The collision avoidance will actually apply brakes as some point. I think you'll get a lot of different opinions because different model years and differents tech options yieldes different results combined with people that don't know making stuff up for some reason. Best bet is to read your manual as it should bring clarity.

**I read the 17 owners manual and it looks like you only get a warning as stated by others. The 19my will apply brakes AND warn
Also, it appears your adaptive cruise only works down to 12mph and is best for highway use. The MY19 works down to 0 and would be good in stop and go traffic as well as highway.
The lane keeping only works if the front camera can detect the painted lines on the road and your speed is above 40. This is the same for MY 19
