I never got the recall notices (Reprogram the PCM 21B10) nor (Cam Phaser Replacement 21N03).
The Ford Dealershit quoted me $7342.90 for related cam phaser repairs and replacement.
I bought the Raptor while serving oversees in Afghanistan through the MAS Ford Car Buying Program.
It was my dream truck - and first big purchase, for myself, in my life.

I've driven reasonably over the years, having 69,743 miles on it. I contacted Ford Customer Care to see what could be done perhaps covering the cost of a long-standing known issue with the VCT. They told me no, my "VIN has no association with that recall/notice" and therefore I'm on my own.
I guess I'm here to just scream into the abyss about it, will do the same on X.
My fault for not tracking the recall notices, my fault for thinking a 2017 Raptor was my 'dream' truck.

Well boys I'm off to sell all my Ford stock to help pay for the repairs, then sell the truck to buy a Toyota. I have 4 kids, 3 of which are of driving age, and I will not be buying them Fords and will make damn sure they and their kids NEVER buy a Ford. Mazel tov.

Damn, that’s painful, sorry to hear it. I hear you, I bought another marque previously and that bad experience soured me on them for the last ... well, we’ll say multiple decades. Good luck!

I hear ya. No more fords for me either.

Problems from day 1, starting 11/1/2020 and it’s 4 years on and you put up with this for... How long?
Why tough out a problem child car? Trade it. Life is simply too short.

You put up with poor shifting at one dealer over multiple visits and didn’t go to another?
You got a rebuilt transmission, it failed within the 12/12 dealer warranty period as well as your powertrain warranty.
They denied a buyback? that’s suspicious.

If you draw the short straw on a car/truck/other from any manufacturer, it’s never fun. My wife has had that after I had one. Unfortunately - or fortunately depending on your POV, her SUV was just nickel and diming ... well, Grant and Franklining her with failures. Power window modules, transmission (a CVT) and finally the t/c which was thousands - these were the final 3 out of warranty. Once the t/c started leaking, we traded. Full disclosure, no hiding anything for some other poor soul, so she got a lot of use out of it - about 6 years but it was an expensive number of post warranty years toward the end.

There's more to the story and I could've made it an hour long. We were past the state buyback even though Ford offered us that option then denied it. Made no sense to me either why they did that. The only thing I would've done differently is been more persistent early on. The transmission shudder was intermittent so we dealt with it even though it didn't seem right, then the transmission went completely out 2x causing 7+ months in the shop. Ford corporate was absolutely no help to keep a customer or fix the issue even though we were still under factory warranty and had Ford ESP as well. Why didn't we trade it sooner? Actually liked the car and just wanted it fixed. Trading = losing money in most cases and thinking that we had warranty, so we're good, we kept on. The other dealer close to me I had some bad experiences previously as well as a friend, so I didn't even bother taking it to them. We almost traded it after the first 4 months they had it, then regretted not doing so. Heck when we went to pick it up they wanted to keep it another 3 weeks to replace the rear differential as well... I picked it up and promptly traded it.

Have owned more Fords than any other maker(Ford family) and don't have any plans to purchase them in the future. Sure that might change in a few years depending on other family/friends and their experiences with the brand. My Raptor is just below 60K miles and when it comes time to replace it, not sure what I'll swap it for...hope to keep it as long as I can. I'm more inclined to buy a much older truck next time, Ford or otherwise rather than anything new. Seems all of the newer vehicles have crazy problems.

Yes, I'm the original owner.
You may have just got a not so good agent. Id call again. They usually are willing to help original owners more than others.

Id also shop other dealers, that seems more than 1/2 to 2/3 more than what it should cost. Id expect 3-5k. For exampke, 300 for a thermostat???? that has to come out and go back in anyway when they do the job and the part is 30 bucks for oem....

Best of luck.

Problem child vehicles are an unfortunate part of life and a lesson some of us learn and others don’t have to. I was unfortunate early on- my FIRST new vehicle was a lemon law case which I prevailed on after 14 months. That sting has stuck with me ever since. Not just the difficulty of it, but the way I got treated along the way. And yeah, I won. So what, still had to bum rides while the damn thing was in the shop. So I think this makes me less patient with repeat shop visits.

If you’re still under factory warranty, car has been with the dealer more than a month, how is that not a lemon lawsuit? I’m not talking about shuddering, I’m talking about the transmission is down/out/not working. Ford’s offered buy backs on Raptors for less, that’s why I commented.

Yeah. I'm picking it up this evening to shop around for a mechanic who can do the job at a reasonable cost. I reached out to Ford Customer Support again today asking to take advantage of the Cam Phaser Replacement CSP 21N03 - same answer, no. It's a process. Thanks bro.

Ford stated NC law only allowed a buyback for the first 2 years of ownership. I questioned it since we had issues during the first year. I could’ve went the lawyer route, but by that time we were just tired of arguing with everyone at Ford and complaining to the dealer. The dealer did offer us a new vehicle at invoice pricing and advocated for us to Ford, so no hard feelings to them, but Ford corporate was useless offering no solutions. We wanted the transmission changed out and they continued to deny it. Even the dealer requested it multiple times and were denied. We even filed a complaint with the BBB Autoline which Ford is a part of and that was a waste of time. Definitely many lessons learned. Main one being not to be patient when it comes to vehicle issues during warranty.
