2017 Lemon?

Your Dad is a wise man. The infamous composite oil pan is a great example of why it pays to be patient. I have wanted a 2nd generation Raptor since it debuted in 2017 and I am still hunting for a sub $50k deal on a 2020 Oxford White or Leadfoot SCAB.

I always thought that too but that rule doesn’t seem to hold on the Gen2

too many 2017’s with 40-50k+ miles that have never had a single problem. I’ve heard more issues with the 2019’s than anything else

wonder if they put more time and effort into the first year quality control to make sure it was right.

Thanks all for your responses and feedback. I am definitely calling Ford today with some feedback for them - "I've wanted a Raptor since they came out, finally had a chance to buy one this year, just spent $50k on the truck and now this...I am so disappointed etc etc." See what they will do for me who knows.

In regards to the question about getting a loaner...don't need one as my wife isn't working and I can just use her Explorer if I need to go out. Plus I live in NY and def do not want to get in a loaner right now...

This is one major down side of buying used. Although you bought a $50k Raptor, you didn't buy the truck from Ford Motor Company. You bought it second hand from a dealership, which means the dealership recorded the revenue and made the profit on the sale, not Ford. Ford makes no money on used vehicles. That is why I strongly suggest taking all issues up with the dealership management; they are ultimately responsible for your buying experience. That being said, Ford corporate may be willing to assist if you have been a past customer and/or due to the fact that you purchased a "halo" vehicle. Never hurts to ask. Was your truck bought as a Certified Pre-Owned?

I know your bummed. But you sound like you got a pretty decent deal at 50k for low miles. Its under warranty so in a sense your going to get a rebuilt trans and prob the cam phasers fixed right out of the gate. Just try and look at it like you just ordered it and your waiting for it to come in vs its at the shop. I know that doesnt change it but it may help. Once you get it back youll have the two most common issues fixed in one shot. Should be good to go after. Hope it all works out

Camshaft phasers are not preventative maintenance; the potential issue and corresponding repair does not affect every vehicle.

I was suggesting that they may have been replaced under warranty. Some raptor owners would walk away after dealing with cam phaser issues. Or maybe they just walked away knowing something was wrong.

Slight rattle on startup is normal.

Mine has a wastegate rattle until the exhaust gets warm. It worried me for a little bit but not anymore. The cam phasers is more of a clatter like a motorcycle chain hitting the chain guard.

Is yours a 2017? If so, TSB 20-2016 was recently released to resolve that issue.

2019 Screw just got a new tranny. Going to pick it up tomorrow. 25k miles. It took 8 weeks on mine.

I purchased a 2017 also and experienced the exact thing that you have described. To be clear if the rattling that you hear is when you first crank the truck then it goes away it is most probably the Phasers, which was my case. If the rattling occurs after you put the vehicle into reverse or drive then it's possible that i is the tranny. I am leaning that it is the phasers and if so not a problem. Ford should be able to diagnois the problem quickly and if it's the phasers you will be enjoying your Raptor because irt truly is an Awesome truck

Yes, on some 2017’s the wastegate linkages become loose and rattle. The TSB provides the procedure for the dealer to repair them and eliminate the noise.

I get that. Sorry if it wasn’t clear. What I’m wondering is if the noise is actually hurting anything.
