Good evening everyone! Brand new to the forms here looking forward to hopefully chatting with more of you down the road but have to make a decision first.

I have been scouting a Raptor for quite some time now. Just have never been able to find one with the right specs at the right price and time.

However, I believe I have found one that fits the bill, but before pulling the trigger, I would like to get everyone's feedback about some conditions of the truck, as well as the price compared to others people of seen out in the market.

Now for the catch . . .

The truck is a manufacturer buyback. The single owner was complaining about low oil pressure as well as consistent downshifting of the transmission, took it into the dealer multiple times, they couldn't fix the issue, so Ford recommended replacing the headers, however; at the time the headers were out of stock and backordered, Ford instead just sent the dealer a full brand new long block and then the dealer fully replaced the long block. No reported issues since then at least via carfax. No accidents or other problems from what I can tell from a couple test drives and walk-around inspection. Haven't taken it to other mechanics to get a full walkthrough yet but wanted to see people's feedback before spending the money on that.

In addition to the 8-year 100,000 B2B it also comes with the standard 3 years 36K B2B and an additional 12 months 12,000 miles B2B which includes no deductible for any issue due to the factory buyback.

Additionally the dealer has offered to supply a signed guarantee that if it any point in time I wish to trade the vehicle back in or sell it back they would offer full Market non Factory buyback value of the vehicle.

What are everyone's thoughts? Thanks in advance!

well I personally would never buy one. there is a dealer near me that had a buy back raptor as well for close to same price as yours and I wouldn't go look at it. so basically 58500 for a full warrantied up raptor I dont believe is a bad price, guess it depends on how long you plan on keeping it. I dont believe them on the trade in, and the next vehicle you buy may not be from this same dealership anyway. On ce you put any mods on truck they might say voided warranties also. too risky in my opinion. my truck was msrp @71k and i bought for 64500. think you could do better

That’s intriguing. What’s the dealer’s street cred?

if they’re basically guaranteeing your trade or even buy back value, that’s not insignificant. I’m still thinking it’s too much though. It does sound like they’re both motivated to sell it and willing to stand behind it. If the guaranteed trade is legit, you might be able to buy, trade up to a ’19 or ’20 with a decent deal. I’d push for a guaranteed order slot for a subsequent Raptor, 2k under MSRP. If you like the ’17, no skin off your butt. if you decide to trade up you have a line on a new Rap with a decent trade.

I’d still run, but if you don’t run, push back on the deal.

Street cred seems to be fine, good reviews overall online from what I can tell. They appear to do a lot of buybacks, buy at auction after Ford has fully repaired them.

I would probably be holding on to this for the long haul, or at least 4-5 years. But the fair non-buyback market value guarantee was interesting, gives a bit more piece of mind.

Main issue I'm going back and fourth on is the deal, from everything I've looked at, I haven't been able to find a near fully loaded with maxed out warranty 2017 at this price point, anywhere. Anything I have seen with similar packages is in the $64-$65 range, without extended B2B warranty.

On one hand I feel like with the warranty and the guarantee the fact that the vehicle was bought back by Ford and the fact that there's full documentation that the full long block was replaced that should deal with the issue. However, on the other hand if there's just something funky about the truck that nobody really knows what the issue is I also don't want to drop $58K for something that's going to be in the shop a lot trying to figure out another problem potentially, but that is a maybe.

I'm honestly trying to convince myself why I shouldn't pull the trigger.

First off WDE!

Second, I think it is too risky. Why take a chance with a truck that you know has had issues. There are multiple people on here who have experienced more than one failure of different systems. There is a greater chance of the known lemon to produce more lemon aid in the future. You are better off saving longer and getting something safer.

So it's everyone's consensus, that let's say I could work the dealer down another $2-$3K, you don't believe it's worth the trouble, even with the full B2B zero cost warranties?

Even though, from what I can tell we are already at about $6-$8K below market at the $56,495?

If it's too good to be true, it usually is.

That 'discount' you are getting will follow that truck and you will give that discount when you sell the truck.

All the warranty in the world means little when you are driving a loaner Fusion once a month because its in the shop again.

I don't disagree with you on that Frank, it does seem to be almost too good of a deal. I suppose I am being too optimistic. So would say that even if I were to get full inspections by multiple dealers and everything checks out fine, no issues, coupled with the the dealer contract that states they will offer "non-buyback" market value if I were to sell/trade back in at some point to them. You would still walk away?

I would, if spending this much on a truck isn't a hardship, I'd spend the extra money and get one without a troubled past.

The dealer understands the riskm that why they are offering all of this as part of the deal. Hell KBB is probably more than 56k for that on a trade in so they are going to offer you non-buyback for a trade in? Sounds fishy.

There are 18's sitting on lots, bet you could find new for another 10k if you are willing to travel.

i appreciate the honesty. Nobody really needs a Raptor, they want it, and let’s face it you have to want it bad enough to navigate some pretty smarmy sales tactics sometimes.

See if they’re willing to let you take an extended test drive; basically for the weekend. You agree not to abuse it of course, but you put it through the paces you expect to put it through.

@Frank N is right about the price, I don’t think the discount for your purchase fully covers the significantly reduced resale value of this being a buyback truck. Plus, the chassis has 13k on it. My take is the buyback is a solid $10k hit. I’d want to be out the door for ‘basically’ very low 50’s, maybe high 40’s.

If you get push back not the price, ask the dealer to guarantee you a loaner; yes, ESP covers you but that coverage isn’t infinite. ask the dealer to comp you a loaner of realistically equivalent value - no fiestas, focus, etc.

If I was determined to make this deal work, that’s how I’d go about it. Be sure you have ALL the repair records you can unearth and that research matches what the dealer says.
