The stock ego boost doesnt get the best mileage. So whats the point?

Well, it gets pretty good mpg in the right truck. Most stock Eco 4x4's are right around 20mpg, some a tad over some a tad under - most likely due to differences in weight and driver input.

The marketing has, unfortunately, got the better of a few folks. There are numerous Eco owners downright pissed at the 8-10mpg towing rates. They just can't wrap their heads around simple physics. These are the same folks that brag about the superiority of the Eco because some fx4 Eco beat a raptor in a drag race - totally discounting the 500-800lb weight difference, much larger tires/increased rolling resistance, larger front profile, etc.

It's a reliable powerplant designed specifically for fleet use - nothing more, nothing less.

Check out the SDHQ Eco Raptor that gets an astounding 12-14 mpg's. Wow, stop the ******* presses, that's a whopping 0% difference from what Raptors with real engines get. I can't wait to trade for the superior engine with less power.

A turbo engine just wont be as reliable as the 6.2 na , just sold a twin turbo BMW , way too many problems ! :Grenade:

Meh, the Eco 'might' be as or more reliable than the 6.2 on average but owner maintenance plays such an important role that the comparisons over time could be difficult. I don't doubt the eco's validity or value, I just don't buy into the hype.

Having fixed turbos over variable geometry turbos makes big difference in reliability since less moving parts. Carbon and bad fuel are variable turbos enemy. The egoboost is turning into something as expensive as a diesel to maintain as well as scheduled maint. I agree with the hype Ive never worried about mileage before so why now. One thing Ive learned recently is the newer vehicles are getting the harder they are to modify. For example the changing tire size with an eco engine Ford says they have the right to void your warranty because you altered its epa certification. Our dealer scan tools as well are starting to limit to change for different calibrations.
