I have a 2013 SCAB purchased new with the 6.2L. The truck has 87K miles and no engine mods and no tune. Bone stock engine. A few weeks ago while driving about 80 it started to shake a bit like the driveshaft was out of balance. No check engine light. I slowed down and the vibration was worse. Sped up a bit and it shook less. The next exit was a couple if miles away. Then the check engine light came on. I slowed to 60 and the light went off. As the light was off i decided to limp to the shop I use. It was running very rough and smelled super rich. We we went to start it it cranked for 20-30 seconds and then fired and froze. When the plugs were pulled the #8 cylinder piston was cracked and the crank is frozen. The theory is the #8 injector was stuck open and filled the cylinder with fuel on the 20-30 second key on and when the engine fired...
I read a ton online that Raptor 6.2L engines are no longer available from Ford and online searches showed that. But the shop owner found when calling Ford that they are available but only as a build to order. The Ford Reman engine with a 1 year Ford warranty is $8k. Prior to find this out the best options the shop found was a used engine with 76K miles for $7K and one with 140k miles for $5K.
So if you need an engine you get a Ford reman for the 2013 6.2L with the Raptor specific cams and head mods.
