2012 Radio head unit upgrade

I have been going through the forum looking for any help on what is realistic and possible to replace the old Sync 1 headhunt in the 2012. Ill start with some general questions

1. Do you lose any functionality when switching over when you get idatalink maestro compatible headunits?
2. If no loss of functionality any recommendations? I am looking at Pioneers NEX family
3. Anybody know where to buy a dashkit for the 2012? I see 2013 and ups for Raptors and then other models f150's but nothing specific for the 2010-12 Raptors who used sync 1.
4. Anybody have pictures of there aftermarket headunits ?

I went to a custom shop here and georgia and they made it sound like it was going to be a piece of cake.... I just have my suspicions after reading through other peoples posts on the difficulties they had.

I just traded in my ‘12 but I had a 8400NEX in it with wireless CarPlay. Worked great except audio sync was a couple seconds behind video no matter how you connected it. Before that I had a Kenwood wired CarPlay unit (I forget the model but it was the flagship at the time) that for some reason required me to install a new backup camera. But climate controls and everything else you’d expect worked great with the maestro harness and Sirius adapter.

I didn’t use any kind of dash kit. The unit fit in where the old screen was.

Sorry I don’t. It looked fine. Maybe a little black spacer bezel.

You have ruled out the 12.1" Phoenix Android tesla style for the 2011-2014? Apple Carplay (wife), Android Auto (me) work fine although I now use Waze. Google maps work fine but like Grover's voice on waze better. Was plug and play to install but then I had experience taking apart the dash to replace both blend motors before. Only change I made was that I relocated the GPS sensor to under the dash above the glove box rather than stuck by the magnet on the back of the unit as Phoenix advised. Their customer service was not bad although didn't have too many problems. My email asking about the GPS sensor location was answered pretty quickly.

A two weeks later, I also upgraded to Sergey's custom firmware for $100 and now have a flawless system with wireless updating of Android versions when released. He even modified the splash screen vehicle image to my exact color and graphics of my truck. After I paid, he sent me links to files by messenger and it took about 1.5 hours and 10 or 15 steps with him responding instantly by Messenger with links and answers to questions as he guides you step by step. Well worth it. That takes a little computer savvy.

I have a Blackvue front and rear dashcam and can watch them in real time on the android screen wirelessly and download files to the unit. Eventually am going to install the 360 degree camera that hooks up to the android unit.
