2 hours into owning Powertrain malfunction

Hoping this is nothing to worry about, but not even 150 miles on the odometer & the wrench shows up on the dash and a "Powertrain malfunction/reduced power" error pops up on the phone.

Shifted out of park and went one too far to M. When I went to accelerate into traffic out of parking lot engine revved, I realized I was in M, moved to D. That's when the error came up, and truck lost power and bucked a few times. Pulled over, turned everything off & then back on. Wrench gone from dash, everything seems fine.

I'm assuming all ok, but thought I'd throw this out there to the forum of longer driving Raptor owners. Does it sound like I have anything to worry about?

So, did the truck move and accelerate in manual mode, or were you not moving?
If you were in Manual mode, it’s super easy to bounce off the rev limiter, especially in first gear.

You can use FORSCAN to check for and clear codes that are set, as well as make some pretty useful changes like Lincoln fold mirrors, etc.

It did move & I was the high rev that made me realize I was in Manual mode, not Drive. The temporary loss of power and very rough shifting surprised me as something like that shouldn't happen just from hitting high rev's in 1st gear as I did.

Will definitely look into FORSCAN. Have similar OBD connections/software for other cars as well

Seems to me that the rev limiter should keep the motor safe.... but unless you were bouncing around on the limiter for a while I don't think you should have gotten the light and the limp mode... I would definitely looking for codes.

For what it’s worth, I did something similar a few years ago when my truck was new. The truck went into limp mode. I pulled over and restarted. Everything was fine and this has not happened since.

On my test drive last week, I unknowingly pulled the shifter all the way back into Manual. I turned out of the dealership and it revved....it took a second to realize what I did. Having only put about 70 miles on it so far, it's obvious that I will have to pay attention to how far I pull it back. It would be nice to have a lockout that would block it from happening.

Thinking about it now, maybe I need to try and release the trigger on the handle and see if there are detents that will stop it.

You only do this once

There are detents. Once the shifter moves rearward, you can release the handle ‘trigger’ on the shifter, and just pull the lever back. It will stop in drive. you can then actuate the trigger and pull the handle rear to engage manual mode.

Wait, did it cut fuel at red line? I've done this maybe 3 times, had it in M and forgot, hit red line, and fuel was cut, but never got any lights. The truck (electronics) should not let you hurt it.
